Need Help Identifying This Tiki Bowl

Pages: 1 5 replies

I picked this bowl up yesterday. Can't seem to find any pictures of it on TC, Ooga Mooga or Tiki Quest.

The tiki on the bowl looks like the Steven Crane tiki on the feathered bowl.

Marked "Japan" on the bottom.

Looks like these guys without the "thumb's up".

Has the same "crossed hands" as these guys.

Anyone know anything about it??

Thanks,

PTD

Reminds me of the Bali Hai NO I have, only brown. Those guys are larger than other similar ones. On Ooga-Mooga Could be the same New Orleans maker. I have a blue one with out a Bali Hai mark. Maybe they also made a brown.

I've seen them before, same as the Steve Crane scorpion bowl, just monochromatic, no leaf decoration. Don't know if they were a trial run, an error, or used at different Tiki temples. Regardless, it's a nice piece.

Thanks Duke and everyone so far...still hoping to find someone who knows for sure or has this bowl.

It seems someone out there should have one?? I am leaning towards Crane, but not knowing the markings on the other bowl (Japan or ??) seems like it is as close to the other one as it can get.

Maybe only a few were made before they went into mainstream production?

Still puzzled, but very happy, since it seems as though this maybe a rarity?
