We've just updated the official site and its chock full of handy information about the events, artists, vendors and more that are a part of the Exotica 2003 weekend that's described below! Check it out at http://www.konakai.com/exotica .

We now return you to the original post:

As a frequent visitor to Tiki Central, you’ve no doubt read by now of how Otto and Sven and everybody else are spending their summer.

But what will you be doing?

Might we suggest a trip to Chicago…

It’s the heartland, Hawaiian-style! Your inland island adventure awaits as you luau on the shores of Lake Michigan, Thursday, August 21 through Sunday, August 24, in the sweltering urban jungle that is Chicago in late summer.

Set sail on an enchanted cocktail cruise, with three nights of celebrations and hosted parties at the legendary Hala Kahiki, the reliable Trader Vic’s, the mysterious Chef Shangri-La and new favorite Rock-a-Tiki. Sway to the rhythms of the finest in lakeshore surf music! Marvel at exotic art on display! Thrill to the mania that is tiki bowling! Explore an all-night tiki flea market! Discover the hidden tiki gems of old Chicago! And round out the weekend with the Midwest’s largest Polynesian dance spectacular, featuring traditional tribal dances (and a little bit of Elvis) outdoors under the hula moon.

For all the latest information, keep an eye on http://www.konakai.com/exotica (as well as right here on Tiki Central). Then set your sights on Chicago, and we’ll plan to see you in August.

Rats.

It sounds spectacular, and I've been looking forward to this as my consolation prize for not going to Hukilau - that is, when it was for International Tiki Day (2nd Saturday in August). Why'd y'all move it?

But school and pre-planning will have started back up then, so now I can't make this either. Wah. I wanted to spend a good several days up there before and after ITD.

sniff sniff

I'm very stoked for this one - a real, super-deluxe Tiki event just an hour away from my doorstep - Way cool!!!

Kongtiki - need any help? - while I'm an hour away from downtown, I get to Chicago & the 'burbs often - let me know what I can do from up here in the land of cows & cheese.

To be fair, Exotica 2003 is really more of a group effort and not just a solo Konakai.com gig. We've done some of the legwork and will be hosting parts of the weekend, but many others are making significant contributions. There are still others who can't aid us directly, but stand with us in our effort. Proper credit will be given at the appropriate time for all of those involved. For now, you can think of it as an effort of a coalition of willing volunteers...

Aaaah, thank you, at last I have a Tiki celebration I can look forward to this summer! The shame of not being at the Oasis, the injustice of missing the Hukilau, at least are eased by this offering. Though distant in time, it will be my guiding light in the foreign provinces. To return to my port of call, the Hala Kahiki, will re-energize me to fulfill my sacred duty of immortalizing the world of Witco.

its great to hear your comin out for this big bro!!....look forward to meeting you and hopefully a host of other TCers at this event...

So this is the event PoweroftheTiki was talkin about. Well, I'd sure like to go to at least one big event this year.

Say...if anyone has had any problems seeing the holder site at http://www.konakai.com/exotica , I wanted to let you all know we've fixed that little problem.

And in just a few more days and after a few more mai tais, we should have a more complete site posted, including a daily schedule, exotic maps of the city and much more.

In the meantime, enjoy MondoTiki...

We'll see you in August!

You know that Swanky and I will be there!

I had to pass on the Oasis and Hukilau this year just because I can't afford to go to all the events. Plus I have been to Palm Springs many times and to the Mai Kai twice. But I have not been to Chicago since 1978 and I was just a teenager then. I have been dying to return. I am seriously considering going to this. Southwest has $79 flights (each way) to Chicago right now. Look out JT, the jab may be coming to town!

When are we going to to see some new updates

...yeah,all these mondo reports have got me even more hyped to find out whats planned for the exotica 2003 event.......at least give us a teaser of what all is bein planned!!

K

More updates very soon! A more vital and informative site will go live at http://www.konakai.com/exotica on May 2nd!

In the meantime, we'll get a tentative roll call going here in the events Forum.

I'll be there, alonf with my Mr. Tiki
