Found this interesting October 25, 1960 article in the St. Petersburg Times: "The Naples City Council has given Dudley Gallahue, Indiana promoter, another six months in which to develop a long promised shopping center and real estate venture in the Old Cove section of Naples. Gallahue also has agreed, according to the council announcement, that by January 1 he will tear down the half built Tahitian Lodge if it is not sold for development before that date. This skeletonized structure, just off Highway 41, in the heart of Naples city, has been generally regarded as an eyesore for nearly 2 1/2 years." |

Interesting to see how many places with the "Tahitian" moniker sprung up in Florida. Or at least tried to, in this case. :) |
