South Seas inspired movies

Pages: 1 7 replies

I did a quick search on this subject and didn't find too much, so pardon me if it's already been covered somewhere else.
I'd like to start a list of South Seas/Polynesian movies. Preferably vintage ones. The movies do not necessarily have to have tikis in them, they just have to evoke that good old tropic island/paradise/south seas vibe. Two that immediately come to mind are the 1937 version of The Hurricane, and Aloma of the South Seas. (Both with Dorothy Lamour and Jon Hall)
Anyone know of any others to add?

You'll find quite a few in the Tiki in Films thread. It's up to 19 pages now, so it'll take you a while to get through it all.

Hey, Luke! Welcome back!

I'd like to revive this thread. My original intention was to have a "list" of South Seas style movies that we could all reference and search for on DVD or tape.
I'd like to keep this a list of vintage movies that were set in the Pacific islands (not just a movie with a tiki in it somewhere). Here is a partial list I have come up with so far. (Haven't seen all of them, myself.)
Please feel free to add more.

On The Isle Of Samoa
Cobra Woman
White Savage
Hurricane
Hell Ship Mutiny
Aloma Of The South Seas
Forbidden Island (with Martin Denny)
Pearl of the South Pacific
The Jungle Princess
Her Jungle Love
Typhoon
Beyond the Blue Horizon
Rainbow Island
Donovan’s Reef
South of Pago Pago
The Tuttles of Tahiti
Hurricane Island
Voodoo Island
Bird of Paradise
She Gods of Shark Reef

I stumbled across it looking for Godzilla "native" pics for Boris's Tiki Walk of Fame thread. :)

Someone posted the 1970s film "Bora Bora" with the Les Baxter soundtrack up on hulu. You MUST see it. I grew up with the soundtrack LP I got at a cut-out sale for 50 cents. It's an EXPENSIVE item on ebay these days. But, it was so COOL to finally see the film...stupid story with HOT 1970s Tahitian scenery.

I noticed The Blue Lagoon starring Brooke Shields and Christoper Atkins is missing from the list, is 1980 not vintage enough for you?

Man O Man, JOHN-O! That's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
