International air transport – a revolution in travel and tourism

Pages: 1 0 replies

Before pointing out as to what ails the transport system, the forms of popular transport systems should be studied and analyzed separately. The three popular means of transport include air, sea and land based transportation systems. Out of the three forms of travel, only the popularity of air travel has led to significant changes in the global travel and tourism industry. Since the 1950’s and more precisely after the end of the Second World War, a major revolution in transportation has taken place. Today it is possible to reach a far off destination at less than half the time required when travelling via the aircrafts used more than 50 years ago.

Tourism experts believe that the high air cost has no longer made the UK a cheap holiday destination. Most of the visitors from other countries arrive by air, and thus travel by other modes of transport, especially through the sea route is rather negligible, as is evident from the published statistics. Sea travel is preferred mostly by the budget tourists and blue collar workers from other countries.

The national carrier, the British Airways should carefully watch the impact of the higher fares on the flow of tourist traffic and adjust them suitably depending on the changing situation. The high travel costs are adversely affecting the tourism traffic from South East and East Asian countries. In places like ***Oxford B&B***s availed by these people with small budgets have hence witnessed a decline.

The price tag for a tour package including cost involved for travelling from Japan to the US’ East Coast turns out to be a little over two thirds the price of a seven days tour to certain destinations in Asia. Similarly, from Hong Kong, an eleven days package tour to certain parts of Asia costs as much as an eight day tour to Europe, while the lowest return air fare from Singapore (and also Malaysia) to certain destinations in South East Asia is higher than that from Perth, Hong Kong or Colombo. Such a situation has led to a windfall for visitors intending to visit the UK. Besides this, the high season during the winter months in Asia, coincides with Europe’s off season. Thus, highly discounted package tours to Europe turns out be cheaper than trips to places like India from points in South East and East Asia.
