The Tiki-Kai opened in 1970 as an 'intimate drinking room' for up to 55 persons within the Pearl Street Warehouse, a live music venue which opened in Dallas in 1969 (to a concert by Ike and Tina Turner, no less). The decor was 'completely South Seas' and included an '8-foot tall hand-carved Tiki-god fountain, palm trees, thatched huts, and a rock garden' with special lighting effects.
The Pearl Street Warehouse closed sometime between late 1971 and 1974. The building has since been razed and the address is now within the site of the new Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
