But since we're on the subject of George Jetson...

Many of us over 35 might have some disillusionment about the astounding future we were promised in LIFE magazine, Popular Mechanics, and various TV shows and movies. We don't have a moon base or helicopter landing pads on our roofs and dinner doesn't come in a pill form (unless you're Amy Winehouse).

The thing I miss most about the future that never was is George Jetson's gizmo that would shower him, shave him, and dress him. He'd groggily step on a conveyor belt on one end and come out the other wide awake and perfectly pressed for the day ahead.

I definitely like being clean and shaved and dressed acceptably, but I really hate the process (I'm putting it off at this very moment). It's all so tedious, even if I can do it in less than ten minutes. So I think of the Jetsons almost every morning.

And I think about the Flintstones every time I get a meager portion of ribs at a barbecue joint which leaves me longing for the day when an order of ribs could literally tip a car over.
