Hawaiian Islands Tsunami Advisory

A 8.0 magnitude earthquake just hit the Vanuatu Islands northeast of Australia (Coordinates: 13.0 South 166.3 East)

An evaluation of the pacific wide tsunami threat is underway and there is a possibility that Hawaii could be elevated to a watch or warning status.

If tsunami waves impact Hawaii their estimated earliest arrival time is 6:50PM HST Wed.07 Oct 2009

Subject - Tsunami Watch cancellation

The Tsunami Watch is cancelled for the state of Hawaii effective
at 0219 PM HST.

Evaluation

based on all available data there is no destructive tsunami
threat to the state of Hawaii. Therefore the Tsunami Watch for
Hawaii is cancelled.

However... some coastal areas in Hawaii could experience small
non-destructive sea level changes and strong or unusual currents
lasting up to several hours. The estimated time such effects
might begin is
