Vintage OC Fair Postcard - TIKIS !

Found this postcard of the OC fair on this amazing site....

Looks like someone was selling tikis and other Polynesian stuff right there on the front left, and, of course, the nice Moai at the entrance.

Sven, has that been posted here before ? I did a quick search but didn't see anything.

At this year's fair, I saw the "tiki" stand, and asked the guy if he had any connection with tiki central...man, he was rude! Total chip on his shoulder! he was bemoaning all the "new" artists, and that he has "been at this for 20 years" and "I don't know where all these new people suddenly came from"...I felt like telling him all his stuff was party city stuff, made in china or the phillipines, and that the artists on tiki central are at least making handcrafted, new pieces. But then I figured it would not matter to this guy what I said...so I kept on walking and had some corndogs instead.

I saw that stuff too this year, it was ok.

I had a corndog too, along with a funnel cake, fish and chips, and chocolate covered bacon.

That post card is cool, I like the funky banners on the poles.

Not to derail this thread purposely but does anybody know the status of the ownership of the OC Fairgrounds? This property was put up for sale recently.

I never used this image because, as historically interesting as it is, visually the main focus lies on those Tiki banners, which are not the most accomplished examples of Tiki style, in my opinion.

One interesting aspect is that if we zoom in on the Moai on the right, I am pretty sure that we will see that it is a Bob Carter piece:

Well, I figured it HAD to be on here somewhere, but finding it would be the proverbial needle in a haystack search.

I like the chinese lantern type things atop those bamboo poles.
