The Cocktail Calculator calculates the cost of your cocktail!

Cockeyed.com has posted its Cocktail Calculator - an online interface that takes the ingredients of popular (or custom) drinks and uses the combination of ingredient quantities and expected cost to determine the overall cost of a cocktail.

For example, it calculates the cost of a Mai Tai at $1.50 based upon the following:
(don't blame me for the site's choice of recipe... but of the sample drinks offered, it made sense to use this one for the Tiki Central crowd)

  • cherry 10¢
  • pineapple chunk 4¢
  • two ounces of rum 44¢
  • ½ ounce of amaretto 50¢
  • one ounce of triple sec 20¢
  • ½ ounce of simple syrup 7¢
  • ½ ounce of lime juice 9¢
  • two ounces of orange juice 6¢

Top Shelf Options
To upgrade your drink with "top shelf" liquor, mark a box below.

    ...
    Tanquery Gin
  Gordon's Gin
  Bombay Sapphire Gin
  Beefeater Gin
  **Bacardi Rum**
  Jose Cuervo Tequila
  Herradura Tequila
  Patron Tequila
  Cazadores Tequila
    ...

Heh, that's a good one....

I calculated the cost of my Mai-Tais a few years back and it came out somewhere on the order of $4 to $5. Probably because I upgraded to some of that top-shelf Bacardi.

A

Good idea, not a great setup though. Recipes (as you mentioned for the mai tai) appear to be poor, choices of spirits limited, as are the ingredients. Nice start if the creator is planning this to be an ongoing project.
