Tiki Room 8 years! In the mid 90s the tiki enthusiasts Stefan Kéry, Max Fredriksson and Katarina Johansson started the club Tiki Room, which took place at different venues around Stockholm for a few years. Nevertheless they wanted a permanent spot, and after years of searching they found likeminded people in the owners of Mellow Bar, who agreed to transform the basement into a true tiki bar. "Finally after the holidays had passed it was time for the opening night; the 23rd of January 2002. A fitting date as this was also the celebration day for the two Nordic fertility gods Frey and Freya. So, it was a very special evening when Polynesian and Nordic fertility gods got to meet. The opening night was a wild bacchanalia and a totally crazy success. Tiki Room was totally packed with happy people drinking the good stuff from Moai mugs and volcano bowls. Lots of journalists, Swedish national TV, exotica fans and even people from the US embassy."
On Saturday January 23 2010 it's exactly 8 years since the grand opening, and during the evening several resident DJs will play their favorite tunes - surf, rock'n'roll, rhythm'n'blues, exotica, crime jazz, library music, soul, soundtracks, easy listening etc. So forget about the winter cold and join the celebration with classic tropical drinks in the mellow Polynesian atmosphere! Okole maluna! 23 years, free entrance - limited seating, be on time! http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=280126820534
