Return Of Puttiki

Pages: 1 46 replies

It's that time of year again... The Return Of Puttiki is coming!

For those who missed our first year there is a thread here:

http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=32108&forum=4&start=0

This year, we are running a three day event over the last weekend of August (Bank Holiday). Friday night will be a tickets only view of the art show (and a chance to get in early on some art bargains) with fine music from the South East's premier Surf and Exotica DJ's. Saturday will be open doors on the show AND the much anticipated Puttiki Mini Golf Tournament (with a pop up cocktail bar at the course for those who like a Mai Tai with their 18th hole). Sunday will be a last brunch and view of the art...

Confirmed for the event are Clumsy Punk Designer, Tiki Racer, Trader Tark, D.D. Mae, Richard Flynn, Atomic Tony Tiki, Trader Jim, Mummy's Little Monster and more...

All events are based at Hunnny Lu Lu's in Hastings (home of some AMAZING mini golf courses as well as casual violence) and is shaping up to be a great event. For ticket enquiries, tournament entry applications or just for a chat contact:

Flyer by the incredible Atomic Tony Tiki to follow...

Like so...

Feel free to snag it and pass it around.

Wonderful art!

Yay!! Had such fun last time...

Cheers Bigbrotiki, it was my art and Sam's wonderful graphic skills that made the poster happen.

Excellent news. Time for my wife to win the Puttiki mini golf again?
We had a great time last year and we'll be sure to be there this year.
Camp tiki anyone?

Only if we can go to the same, mad campsite again...

Just needs some strings of lights and we'll be sorted...............

We would love to make it again this year and camp at the mad campsite with you guys, but we have got 2 other things on that weekend already, one being a wedding, so will have to work out what to do, but I think the Puttiki is going to win!!

As an added bit of mirth, we're looking for a unique Puttiki cocktail to serve at the event and then keep on the menu at Hunny's... We were hoping to get everyone attending the opening night to have a taste and rate the entries and pick us a winner.

If you fancy yourself as a bit of mixologist and think you can magic up an exotic tipple that compliments a bit of art, mini golf and tiki related good times then send your recipe in for judging and tasting... If you win, your name will be up in lights (or chalk) on our menu board for all to see!

As always:

The good folk at Hunny Lu Lu's bar are keen to hear any rum suggestions people would like to slurp over the weekend?
Current supplied include -
Appleton Special,
Appleton VX,
Appleton 12 year,
Cockspur,
Goslings Black Seal,
Sailor Jerry
Morgan Spiced
Captin Morgan
Mount Gay
Koko Kano
Havana 7
Havana 3
Havana Special
Havana 1

And a couple of other bits. . . .

What, no Wood's Navy Demarara yet? Folks don't know how lucky they are they can get this over yonder. A real man's rum! :)

Ah ha! There is Woods.....I don't think it's that one though, can find out this week....also a Angasotra and Myers Rum Original Dark......

It would look like this:

Wood's 100 is made from the finest Demerara Sugar, produced from the finest sugarcane, the sweetest in the Carribean, grown on the banks of the famous Demerara River in Guyana.
The rums from this region are renown for being dark, aromatic and for their richness of flavour. Wood's is distilled using traditional pot stills - a method developed to create malt whisky and unchanged in 150 years.

Due to Woods' high alcoholic strength and flavour it has gained a reputation amongst bar-tenders as being "the real deal" - an essential item in their cocktail kit. It has therefore gained something of a reputation as a niche, high quality brand amongst spirit cognoscenti.

Distinctive packaging format which has remained unchanged for 50yrs reinforcing the authentic, classic nature of the brand. Enjoy Wood's straight, on ice, or with a mixer such as cola or lemonade. Wood's 100 is the perfect ingredient to add to a cocktail to give a spicy kick.

Ha ha! Yes that is the one, I believe it goes into a killer Zombie.....understandably why!

How about a sly bottle of Pusser's? It's a great rum for sipping as you admire some art...

The first Puttiki Mini-Golf Challenge is on!

Our venue is Planet Hastings Crazy Golf, a challenging 18 hole course with streams, ponds, lush foliage and NEWTS... Perfect for an afternoon of cocktail sipping and lazy, amiable putting! Hole 10, however, is rated S1 for difficulty... So, that's where you'll find our Hunny Lu Lu's Pop Up Bar to help calm your golf addled nerves. The intrepid Tiki golfer may even find an alfresco dining experience (that's barbeque to me and you) somewhere around Hole 18....

The venue is hired exclusively for the use of Puttiki-goers and is owned and run by FOUR TIME WORLD CRAZY GOLF CHAMPION (!), Tim 'Ace Man' Davies and THREE TIME BRITISH MINIGOLF CHAMPION (!), John 'Big Top Ted' McIver, so don't go expecting an easy ride to Puttiki glory. The tournament will run from 4.00pm onwards on Saturday the 28th of August and the winner will be announced on Sunday... Just in time to see their name be the first to grace the Puttiki Mini-Golf Wall Of Fame!

To give you a heads up on the course, these are the Holes and the Par that you can expect to come up against on the day:

Hole 1: Up, Up & Away - Par: 2

Hole 2: Twin Peaks - Par: 2

Hole 3: Dead Gorse Alley - Par: 2
Hole 4: George - Par 2
Hole 5: Three Eyed Monster - Par: 3

Hole 6: Jack In The Green - Par: 2
Hole 7: The Dolmen - Par: 2
Hole 8: Melancholy Mound - Par: 2
Hole 9: Dog's Leg - Par: 3

Hole 10: Round Breaker - Par: 2 (Mini Bar Located Here... You'll Need It!)
Hole 11: Homeward Bounce - Par: 2
Hole 12: Badger's Plateau - Par: 2
Hole 13: Rock & Roll - Par: 2
Hole 14: Brewer's - Par: 2
Hole 15: Ego Falls - Par: 3
Hole 16: Clanger - Par: 2
Hole 17: Les Trois Bumps - Par: 2
Hole 18: The Windmill Hole - Par: 2

For a full look at the course, visit the Planet Hasting Crazy Golf page on miniaturegolfer.com here:

Entry to the tournament will carry a small fee and the venue has a capacity of 40 players... So, for guaranteed places email ahead to:

[email protected]

or

[email protected]

We will reserve a handfull of places for purchase on the opening night of the art show for those of you who need a few cocktails and eyeful of some great art before competitive Mini Golf seems like a good idea. However, be warned:

"Please watch your step. The uneven terrain that makes this course enjoyable can add to the risk of injury from falling. Play at your own risk."

More details on the weekend as whole to follow...

Stay tuned for TWO amazing additions to the weekend line up of events... More details (and an artwork preview from Alexis Camburn) to follow.

Attention all Puttiki goers..!

We are thrilled to announce that on Saturday the 28th of July, we will be holding a screening of the Duda Leite film 'Tikimentary: In Search Of The Lost Paradise' as part of the weekend lineup for The Return Of Puttiki.

The screening will be held in a beautiful cinema with a fully licensed bar, so everyone can enjoy the film with a cocktail in hand!

More details to follow but this should prove to be a highlight in an already jam packed weekend of Tiki related fun.

I'm really excited about the film!

Does anyone need accommodation information? There's a very nice place I can recommend.

Just a quick post to let everyone know that a full list of events and useful B&B and Camp Site numbers will be posted shortly.

Any latest news?

Right... First in a slew of information is the line up for the three days of The Return Of Puttiki!

Friday the 27th of August:

Puttiki Art Show Opening: 6.00pm to 2.00am.

@ Hunny Lu Lu's (56 Robertson Street, Hastings)

First chance to behold (and purchase) the many artistic wonders on offer from a wide range of new and established artists including Tiki Racer, Trader Tark, Alexis Camburn, Mummy's Little Monster, David Heulun, Clumsy, Trader Jim, Los Furias Tiki and more!

First chance to sample the delicious 'Haole-In-One', a brand new cocktail created for Puttiki by Ken Kanaka of The Enchanted Tiki Blog! We can't say much... But it involves Pimms and is delicious! Should that not tickle your pre-golfing taste buds, then fear not... A full range of classic cocktails (including virgin delights for the drivers) are on offer from the Hunny Lu Lu's bar, mixed by the very talented hands of Joe Cocktail and Lady K.

Another opportunity to get your hands on one of the VERY impressive mugs created for the Tiki Today show by Tiki Racer himself! If you missed the show in June, then remember to leave some room in your bag for this beauty... The bar will also be carrying a small selection of other delightful mugs for you to either simply enjoy your drink in or take home to treasure forever!

Saturday the 28th of August:

Entry for the Puttiki Mini Golf Contest: 1.00pm to 6.00pm

@ Hunny Lu Lu's (56 Robertson Street, Hastings)

All those who have signed up will only need to come to the bar, pay the very reasonable entry fee of £6, collect their Return Of Puttiki golf ball and score card and treat themselves to another view of the art and a calming cocktail or two. The bar will re-open at 8.00pm to allow for post golfing drinking...

The bar will remain open from 1.00 through 6.00 to allow for more viewing of the art show and to meet all of your cocktail needs!

The First Puttiki Mini Golf Championship: 4.00pm to 9.00pm

@ Planet Hastings Mini Golf (White Rock Gardens, Hastings)

Time to get serious as the challenging 18 hole course tests your hung-over nerves! Two Mini Golf champions will be on hand to ensure fair play and, yes, you will be marking someone else's scorecard to ensure that no miracle 'hole in one's' occur. Sorry, them's the rules.

Enjoy a mid round cocktail from our Hunny Lu Lu's Mini bar, located at the legendary tenth hole. Serving a small selection of classic cocktails, this may be the only way you will make it through the challenging back nine!

Hang on to your ball... You may need it on Sunday should you emerge as the most skilled (or least inebriated) Puttiki challenger!

UK Premier Of 'Tikimentary: In Search Of The Lost Paradise': 9.00pm & 10.00pm (tbc)

@ The Electric Palace Cinema (High Street, Hastings)

US postal service willing, this will be your first chance to wallow in the luxury of a beautiful cinema and take in Duda Leite's documentary film detailing the current Tiki revival. Having already been a huge success with the American Tiki crowd, we hope you will enjoy a good watch in a lovely setting that has the added bonus of a licensed bar!

(Due to the complications surrounding this event, we are unable to guarantee that this particular portion of the day will occur. We will update you as soon as we know.)

Sunday the 29th of August:

Trophy Presentation And Wind Down: 12.00pm to 4.00pm

@ Hunny Lu Lu's (Robertson Street, Hastings)

A last chance to take in the art show and brace yourself for the announcement of the first ever Puttiki Mini Golf Champion! The winners ball will be placed in a unique trophy (created by Trader Tark) and proudly displayed in the bar for all to see! An honour like no other... Next year may be a different winner but this will be the first name on that trophy for ALL time.

Live Surf Instro and cocktails will round out the weekend as we bid farewell to what promises to be a great few days.

We're working on a small menu for the golf bar, aiming for around 3 alcoholic cocktails and a selection of non-alcoholic too. What would you like to drink?

Here's a link to 1066 Online... It's an excellent site for maps of the area, including parking facilities and stuff to do when you're not drinking and golfing...

Here's a sneak preview of a fantastic new piece, painted especially for The Return Of Puttiki by David Heulun...

Title: Blowing Smoke On The Turquoise Coast
Artist: David Heulun
Size: 30x40cm
Medium: Acrylic On Canvas Board
Price: £300

See this piece and four other works by this incredible artist from Friday the 27th onwards!

Anyone for Tikitz?

http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=37336&forum=12&1

They'll be at The Return Of Puttiki too...

We've just been asked for good taxis on the facebook page so if anyone here will need transport in Hastings over the weekend, here's a couple of options, and the local tourist info site which has lots of accommodation links and other useful information.

Phoenix Taxis are pretty good and are based just around the corner from the bar - 01424 461010, web site - http://www.phoenixtaxisltd.co.uk. New Carmiles are also quite good - 01424 441 234, and taybar too - 01424 719 719.

It's also worth a look for any one still needed accommodation on http://www.1066online.com

We will have a VERY limited number of the Comic Con exclusive Green and Pink Gloo edition Tikitz for sale at The Return Of Puttiki. There are only 1,000 of these WORLDWIDE and nowhere else to buy them in the UK... Can you really say no?

Should you miss out, you will still be able to have a first hand look at the prototypes for the full range as part of our art show and snag some great Tikitz swag, courtesy of Sprite Animation Studios.

We're camping at the Park Farm campsite. If anyone wants to meet just PM me or look for the Aloha shirt up a flagpole at the campsite.

Pick up your Puttiki score card and ball (in a choice of FOUR colours) at Hunny's before heading up to Planet Hastings!

Here it is... The truly brilliant Puttiki Mini Golf Trophy:

The winner of the tournament on Saturday will see their ball placed into his hands for the year and their name added to his base for all time!

This is the fantastic work of Trader Tark, the VERY talented (and charming) chap who will also be showing a selection of his great carves at The Return Of Puttiki... I suggest you get in early on the Friday and snap one up!

Man that looks great - can't wait to check it out in person!

And it will be one of these official Return Of Puttiki balls that he holds... Perhaps even one of the ones in this picture!

Since players will have to go around in groups, we have produced four different colours... Pink, Yellow, Green and Brown (because you've got to have Brown!). That way, everyone knows which ball belongs to which player and 'friendly disputes' can be avoided.

And yes, you do get to keep your ball, even if you don't win!

We are coming down Friday night after work, so will probably be quite late, and we are staying on the same campsite as Kon-Hemsby, Liz and Chris, etc; so should be a good laugh!! Really looking forward to it now, a weekend of tiki, cocktails, good friends, what else could you want!! Oh Sunshine!!!
Look forward to seeing everyone over the weekend!

Well... It's Puttiki Eve and things just wouldn't be right without a bit of bad news:

The Saturday screening of the film Tikimentary has, sadly, had to be canceled. However, the golfing event is running until 9.00pm and the bar will, of course, be open so there is still much to see and do (and drink). I would like to apologise for any disappointment and keep my fingers crossed for sunny weather on Saturday!

See you all tomorrow.

So, after a long afternoon of fierce putting, blessed with a rare spot of sunshine (thank you Tiki Gods) here are the final scores for The Puttiki Mini Golf Championship!

Note: The sun did shine but controversy reigned... The top placing scores were not only local but also related to Los Furias Tiki!!! The scores were fair and marked by Tim 'The Ace Man' Davies but familiarity with the course was deemed an advantage. As such, Puttiki has divided the win between the top scorer and the top scoring Puttiki visitor. It's a win, win situation!

TOP SCORES

1st Place - Ben Knight (44)
2nd Place - Esme Knight (51)

(Esme was denied a place on the trophy but was awarded a lovely necklace by Sian of Exotic Tramp... Esme seemed more than happy and we at Puttiki thank Sian for her generosity).

Thanks to Tim and everyone at Planet Hastings for having us and thanks to all the Puttiki adventurers who took part and played with such good grace and fair sportsmanship! Also, a massive thank you to Clumsy for making everyone else look so much better... We look forward to your Clumsy Wooden Spoon Award for last place at Puttiki 3D.

What a great weekend! We all had a blazing time, and the Tiki camp was just great, great company, great drinks and great food! Puttiki was an excellent laugh, and I do think that our team was definately the best dressed!!! All in all a great bank holiday weekend, roll on next year!
Thanks to Sam for all of your hard work in 'putt'ing together Puttiki, sorry for the pun!!!
Hope to see you all again soon.

A massive thank you to all the bold Puttiki adventurers who braved the rain, the restless natives and the exhausting challenge of Planet Hastings! It was a pleasure to see everyone and I'm glad a good time and plenty of booze seemed to be had by all.

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all the artists who made the show so good (with a special mention to Trader Tark for his hard work on the glorious trophy) and give a special mention to Kessie and, of course, the mighty Cocktail Joe for all of their efforts to make sure that The Return Of Puttiki was a delicious, booze filled weekend of Tiki joy that actually got to happen.

I've ruthlessly stolen photographs from everyone and put together one huge Return Of Puttiki photo album here:

The poster for The Return Of Puttiki is due to be released in a very lovely run of 20 signed prints... Drop us a line if you fancy owning a lovely piece of Puttiki history.
