One of my favorite memories of Chicago's Kona Kai was a drink called the Princess Gardenia. I'm trying to see if anyone out there knows a recipe for this drink. It was served in a big glass (essentially, a LARGE champagne bowl glass), it clearly had GRENADINE in it, and it had a GARDENIA floating on top. Even without the alcohol, the smell of the gardenia flower with the taste of the grenadine was intoxicating! And of course, you could probably throw in a little vodka on top of that. :) But back in the day, it was a drink designed for the kids and the teetotalers. Perhaps it goes commonly by some other name? I'm trying to remember if it was a frozen or slushy drink, and I can't really remember. I think it did have a lot of ice, but it had to be at least a little liquid-y, as I seem to remember the flower "floating" on the top. I appreciate any help you all can give me! Does anyone who remembers the Kona Kai also remember this drink??? Thanks! |
