Great Margarita Quote

Pages: 1 4 replies

My wife, the food critic, and I were at a local Tex-Mex place and she foolishly asked the server if the margaritas were made with fresh juice or mix. The server replied that they weren't made with mix, but with POWDER, which she thinks is sooo much better than mix and that we should try them and we would agree. So that should show all you tiki drink snobs out there with your fresh juices -- POWDER is the way to go!!!

Uggghhhh... The worst margaritas I've ever had were at, of all places, Margaritaville, and they were made with powder. Bleah.

new Margarita flavored Tang.. how can you possibly go wrong.....

Oh yeah.. by TRYING TO DRINK ONE!!

So later last night, I had to make a "real" margarita:

2 oz Casa Noble extra anejo (kindly given to us by the Casa Noble folks at Tales of the Cocktail)
1 oz Grand Marnier
3/4 oz Key Lime juice from our Key Lime tree (I was all out of powder!)
2 bar spoons of agave syrup
Garnished with a Key Lime slice.

Remove pants and enjoy...

Thought the depth of the extra anejo would overpower the drink, but it didn't. I also worried about the Key Lime juice, since it tends to be tarter than your Persian lime. The tequila actually accented the agave to the point that we had to had another tad of key lime to balance it out. Probably because I didn't use powdered agave...

Well, Trader Vic's uses powdered Mai Tai mix too, so, it must be good stuff!
