I already did a thread on the amazing and mysterious Godfather of Exotica, Korla Pandit. Here is another unsung figure of the world of exotic music - Mohammed Rafi. Obviously, what is great with this group of fans on Tiki Central is the fact that these performers aren't unsung in the eyes of this crowd. But, beyond the confines of this group...??? So, doing my part to give these hard working artists the time they deserve. Here is a nicely written and fairly comprehensive Wikipedia page on Rafi: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammed_Rafi My favorite Rafi song (and video), Jan Pehcachan-Ho: The man truly had an absolutely beaautiful voice...as demonstrated here on Pyar Kisa Ka Gaata Hai: The song that introduced me to Rafi sahaab, "Mari Kahani Bholne Wale" |

I have to agree about Jan Pehachan-Ho. . . I still love listening to it, and watching the "unique" dance that accompanies the song. It great! The wife can't stand it, but hey, what can I say? |

I have that film clip readily available on my desktop, because wherever I am coming from, when I watch it, I get happy, and my belief in mankind is restored. It's a failsafe remedy. And after being featured in the title sequence of "Ghostworld" years ago (disregard the header): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in9xr9n5utM ....the original recording was now even used as the basis for Heineken commercial - which at first viewing got me miffed a la "WHY can't they leave a perfect thing alone!" - but then I had to admit that the modern version is not bad at all: Lavish production value, good direction - I have seen much worse: http://tvcfblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/heineken-date-commercial-song-jaan.html |
