Treasure Craft mug: dishwasher safe?

I recently got my first tiki mug (yay!), an old Treasure Craft in the Kona style. It's quite dirty, however, and I'm curious about the risks in putting it in the dishwasher for the first washing. Is it safe, or will it ruin the finish?

Never put mugs in the dishwasher unless they are Party City plastic cups.

Vintage mugs hand wash. Heat and cold will crack ceramic...esp if its old.

When in doubt..put it on display and drink out of something expendable :)

What leleliz said. Years ago, I put my mint condition Latitude 20° Earring Head Mug in the dishwasher, and it melted the white paint off the earrings. Never again.
