I recently tried this rum from the Dominican Republic at a Sacramento bar - it has a nice bite of brown sugar that's a little startling at first but nicely mellows over ice. Has anybody else tried it? |

I got a bottle recently. Atlantico is a nice smooth Spanish style molasses rum - definitely a premium rum good for sipping, but not crazy expensive (~ $33 range). Maybe a little on the sweet side for some people, akin to rums from other Spanish speaking countries like Diplomatico, Zacapa, Centenario, Millonario, Zafra. I'm a fan of Dominican rums in general, which often seem the closest cousins to Cuban rums. Atlantico has a little less of the barrel flavor that some Dominican and Cuban rums have, and might be a little richer than some of the light Cuban rums. Supposedly it's aged 3 times ending with a solera blending that makes the contents 15-25 yrs old. Or in other words, good stuff. -Randy |
