Not sure if this has been posted, but there is an excellent Paul Gauguin exhibit at the East Wing in DC right now.

http://www.nga.gov/press/exh/3011/index.shtm

The exhibit features several of his Tahiti Era paintings and also his "severed head" mug (featured in The Book of Tiki)

I believe this mug is even slightly more expensive than Ren Clark's..HA!

cool!

i recall that they had a gaugin exhibit there in 1988 - and even included parts of (?) "la maison de jouir."

it was a great show, if this is similar i highly recommend it.

You know I think I've never seen a better photo of that mug:

So we have a "Guillotine" parallel between Paul Gauguin and Ren Clark!
And I never noticed how similar the glaze colors are to the original Sven-Tiki mug :) :

And yes, the Gauguin head trophy will definitely out-price the Ren Clark AND the Elvis Blue Hawaii mugs together.

Saw the show in London last month.....excellent
the best Gauguin show ever, was also at the National Gallery 1988
which I saw accidently, completely sold out, I was in the museum
when an elevator let me off inside the show by chance....fantastic !

thanks for the heads up on this exhibit - would love to try to get there.

Gauguin Attacker Angered By "Very Homosexual" Art
Suspect told cops she was from CIA with "a radio in my head"

Suspect Susan Burns said that the Gauguin painting “Two Tahitian Women,” valued at $80 million, is “very homosexual. I was trying to remove it. I think it should be burned,” according to a criminal complaint filed in D.C. Superior Court. “I am from the American CIA and I have a radio in my head. I am going to kill you,” added Burns, who lives in Alexandria, Virginia.

if anybody goes to this exhibit, be sure to also go visit the moai at the natural history museum, lower level by the restrooms.

Is this exhibition going to make it to California?

Afraid not. NGA is the only U.S. venue per their press release.

'Never lose wonder looking at Paul Gauguin's work, especially the paintings. His incredibly imaginative use of colour and intensity, not to mention, freezing moments of a distant past in Tahiti (which can never return) makes his art timeless, inspiring, historical and priceless...

...and of course, tres' Tiki!
