JOHN-O's Highbrow/Lowbrow Downtown L.A. Bar Crawl (Part I) coming soon... AFTER Sept 24th

UPDATE - I've fallen behind on the logistics for the Tiki bar BUS thing. It was much more planning than I had anticipated. Maybe in 2012.

Instead for now I'm going to do a more conventional walking crawl in Downtown LA.

Go to page 2 for more details...

Woohoo! Count Soccertiki and I in on WHATEVER kind of crawl you plan :)

What happened to Telescopes? Wasn't he supposed to be helping with this?

J

Telescopes is fronting half of the "start-up" costs as well as sharing 50% of the financial exposure.

I was waiting on the opening of a new Tiki bar in West Hollywood which I just learned from Bamboo Ben does not look promising.

I still need to figure out internet pre-payment, bus logistics (like where can the bus park for an hour at each location?), and liability insurance.

Regardless, something will be planned for that date and it will be FUN !! :)

HT

Would like to attend the tour.

C

Looks like I crawled out of a rock just in time. I hope I can make it. Is there a thread or info for a sign up?

I'm always down for a crawl. Looking forward to updates!

Chippy, more info will be forthcoming. Like my prior events, I like to manage the logistics via regular email so I know what the exact headcount will be (and in case TC goes down). I have your work email, so don't worry you're in the loop.

If anyone else is interested, please PM me your personal email ID (unless we've corresponded before, then I already have you in my TC Excel spreadsheet :))

John-O has a Tiki Spreadsheet!

Just received a message through the Coconut Wire... Bong is In, Please add him to the crawl list :)

Thanks John....

Starting to save my pennies now.

Such is the best of help.
Many thanks to you both.

I am still around. I've been out of the country for much of the summer... Far from the land of tiki.

My many thanks to John for being the glue that makes these bar hops hoppible.

Everyone who want on the nautical bar crawl knows that the crawls put together by John rule!!!

J

A "made man" in the Moai Mafia made me a Tiki offer I couldn't refuse. :D

As a result I'm going to reschedule my Sept 17th bar crawl. Actually that will be quite easy as it was turning out to be a walking crawl rather than the bus crawl.

You should attend this worthy event on that Sat instead.

Stay tuned for JOHN-O's High-Brow/Low-Brow Downtown L.A. Bar Crawl (Part I) scheduled for another weekend. :)

*perks up
Downtown bar crawl?!?!?!?
You know I am in.
As far as bus parking for a bit.
Santa Con gets buses every year.
I will try to get more info if you need it!

CJ

my birthday is the following weekend and was thinking about hitting up some bars

Hi John-O!

Just FYI, there's an event / reception on Sat night, 9/24 for Tiki Ray and Cindy, celebrating their return from getting married in Hawaii. I think a large number of tiki central folks will be there.

I did have some shows on the DVR to catch up on, maybe a hair appointment that day?
some laundry to do & I might get an oil change to?

Okay, so we know Sept 17th is out and so is the 24th. Now to come up with a new date.

HT

I am glad Chuck tatum is Tiki put his personal needs first, before Tiki Activities.
I hope that VCR movies are PG rated, your using bio laundry soap, and your oil will be collected
for and recycled. You do not want to offend anyone. That is why you are Chuck tatum is Tiki.

VCR! now that is retro, I threw out all my videos awhile back
Hi-Def baby!

Here's what I'm planning for my Downtown L.A. Crawl...

  1. An exclusive bar focusing on high-end rum mixology (that I'm working on special access for our group).

  2. One of my historic mid-century dive bar ringers.

  3. A well-established brand Tiki establishment.

I've found 3 is the magic number for the majority of people, but I'm sure I can keep the party rolling afterward for a smaller group.

Also I'm calling this part 1 because this is just the tip of the iceberg on what's blowing up in Downtown LA.

Stay tuned for the new date.

Very good John-O sir - I'll be watching for more info as September draws closer. Mel and myself enjoyed our tour of downtown LA with the group last time (theater tour.)

I can't imagine how an event could get any better and more interesting...oh yeah...add cocktails!! DUH!

I am in, if I can dress like one of the "Warriors" who is fighting his way back to Coney Island

Warriors, come out to play-ay!

HT

John-o, I am looking forward to your tour. Please keep us all posted.

Chuck Tatum, I like your idea!

"The Warriors" was one of the all time great movies that I saw on its theatrical release - now I feel old.

I can Digg It!

J

Chuck Tatem, if you're going to derail my event thread then at least use a more Tiki-relevant movie reference.

You picked the wrong 1979-released gang movie that starts with a "W".

The depicted period really should be (the more Tiki appropriate) 1963…

"Don't Fuck with the Wongs !!"

:D

Then I say this one if you are looking for something older

Sorry about taking over the thread but I just want to be FREE, Free from the MAN!
