60's Bay Area Tiki Artist Find

Pages: 1 0 replies

Found a great fountain and tiki statue at an estate sale recently in San Jose. The old gal was selling off her husbands things, as he died-- and it was mostly tools, etc in the garage. That said, i spotted the fountain in her entry way, starting talking to her, and she determined that we should have them and can better enjoy them. We sure will

She stated that she bought these in the mid 1960's from a North Bay artist named Karl Grulkie. The best part of her story about him is that she said he single handedly carried the fountain tiki to her entry for installation (it weights about 500 lbs+, easy.)

Here is the fountain (that tiki is about 5 feet tall:)

Here is the tiki (Notch thinks it looks Maori, as it has tattoos all over its body and back-- it's about 3 feet tall:)

Anybody know any more history on this artist?

Mahalo,
