JOHN-O's Highbrow/Lowbrow DTLA Bar Crawl - 11/12 (Pics pg 5)

OK this time it's set.

FYI, the Tiki Farm event was canceled so I'm jumping on that open Tiki date.

Here's the proposed itinerary...

  1. We'll start out at an exclusive private rum bar that L.A. Weekly recently dubbed L.A.'s Best Undercover Tiki Bar.

I've had the membership fees waived for our group. :)

  1. Next we'll move on to Trader Vic's Downtown L.A. (I've decided to move TV up so we can get something to eat mid-crawl and also beat the eventual onslaught of Hockey fans when the Kings game ends that night.)

  2. We'll finish at the Moroccan-themed lounge at the nearby historic Figueroa Hotel. (Instead of my original mid-century dive bar ringer. Our group has grown too large for that place.)

Everything is in walking distance.

I've found that 3 is the magic number for most, but if a smaller group wants to continue on into the night then I'll lead that expedition.

PM me your name and email ID and I'll put you on the guest list. Also I'll email you the exact logistics as we get closer to that date.

The crawl list...

  1. SoccerTiki

If anyone is looking for a place to stay in downtown for the night The Figueroa Hotel is a Very Cool Place with a lot of History to it. The rates are very affordable for downtown plus it's right across the street from Trader Vic's.....WooHooo :) http://www.figueroahotel.com

There is a hockey game at the Staples Center on the 12th - so parking really close to Trader Vics may be costly. If you park just a few blocks away around Grand Ave. it gets as low as $5.

Tiki + Hockey ??

I'll make sure I'm sporting the appropriate headwear...

Hey JOHN-O,

We start at 6pm. (Edited - changed from 7pm)

Also I may juggle around the sequence of bars so we can get food along the way.

Of course the FilthyMidget will be there with her cohort & possibly 1 more guest.

We are very excited about being included in the crawl. For those of you interested in getting a room downtown, you may want to visit priceline. I named my price for $85.00 and was able to book a room at the Westin Bonaventure. I checked their on line rates and was quoted over $200.00

I don't like the sound of This? who, who?

Well my live in Cabin Boy will be there(Seth). Also, Rebecca some of you know from here various visits to Tonga occasionally & visits the Nor Cali Tikis up there. Travis has also expressed interest, another visitor of Tonga, the Ti, & Waikiki Womb. Is it time to Crawl yet?!?!?!?

Now that sounds like a good group.

Yes!

Although I can't join you for the first stop on your fine crawl, coincidentally I will be at Trader Vic's that night, and I look forward to seeing you all show up there!

If all works out, we'll be joining in the crawling :)

Wow, the interest in this event has exceeded my original Tiki expectations. We look to have over 40 people. I've updated the crawl list on Page 1.

Because this is about twice the number I was originally planning for, I've decided to swap out my mid-century dive bar choice with another destination. Instead we'll be visiting the Figueroa Hotel's Moroccan-themed lounge.

Not only is this much closer to Trader Vic's, it probably fits in better with Tiki's exotica aesthetic. The Figueroa Hotel itself is quite historic, having opened in 1925 as a YMCA residence. It's also purported to be haunted. :)

You turned the page on my recent update Joe !!

And what the heck is that ?? :-?
