I know this crosses over to Bar talk and I understand if an admin wants to move it, but I figure everyone here could offer the best opinions.

Anywho, I am getting my first real chance to spend some time at the bar at Trader Vic's in Los Angeles this Saturday. I know I should order an original Mai Tai made from scratch, but I am wondering what else should I intoxicate myself with?

In other words what are your favorite Trader Vic's cocktails that they serve in the current restaurant/bars?

I thank you, my live does not.

Hands down, order a Navy Grog!

Hmmm... This discussion sounds familiar.

What is your personal cocktail fave at Trader Vic's Downtown L.A.?

At Trader Vic's, my favorite drink is the Woodford bourbon... neat. :)

DOH

And that's what I get for not searching and checking the old topics.

Thanks, I will read the old posts.

But anyone else, please still feel free to make suggestions. The drink menu has changed since the old topic.

So far I have 1944 Mai Tai and Navy Grog.

Also Rawim, why don't you wait a week and visit Trader Vic's on the 12th during my crawl ??

That way you can debate this question with 40 other Tikiphiles in person. You'll also be able to compare the cocktails at TV against what's arguably one of LA's top destinations for high-end rum mixology.

The Tiki Puka Puka is one of my favorites and it is one of the strongest drinks on the menu.

JOHN-O,

Your crawl sounds like a ton of fun, and I am normally a super shy introvert until I have had a few cocktails I will see if I can convince the better half to let me out for the evening as it sounds like it would be a blast.

I would say the Navy Grog,
but they don't make them like the used to.

at the (now closed) Beverly Hills TVs
they would make it with 3 ounces of Dark Rum.
now they use 1 white, 1 amber, and 1 dark,
not the same taste at all.

One of my favorites is the Queen's Park Swizzle - a strong, simple, and very 'rummy' drink.

Off the top o' my head... but I know there's more.

Moku Nani
Pupule Punch
Navy Grog
Queens Park Swizzle
Singapore Sling
Scorpion Bowl
Trader Vic's Grog
Bahia
Rum Keg
