Tiki Central / Tiki Music

The (Hawaiian) Surfers

This is my favorite Hawaiian band from the 1950's - 1960's but there is so
little info on them anywhere. I have four of their albums but would like
to know more and maybe even write to them. Any one else know them or have
suggestions on this topic? If you don't know them you should check them
out, they were headlining at the Stardust tiki room in Vegas when they were
about 20 years old. Great music but mostly only on LP.

Thanks

This is really good, but I'm assuming you probably already researched it...

Also the person referenced in the article, Jeff Chenault, posts here as "Jeff Central". He's also the main music writer for Tiki Magazine. He might be able to add more background.

And the Bigbro featured them on his "The Sound of Tiki" CD. They play Tiki music !! :)

I can't top the information gathered in the above article but I did find a nice interview with Bernie Ching. He was another member of The Surfers.

Check it out here.....

I think I have a solo album by Bernie Ching too!!

Cheers and Mahalo,
Jeff

Thanks for the info and links! I had seen the larger story but the one on Bernie Ching was very interesting and shows an album I've never seen before. I do subscribe
to Tiki Mag and would love to see an article on these guys Jeff! They really are great, and I'm glad I have a phonograph as I don't think any of their (10?) albums are available in any other media except a few digital posts.
