eBay: Tiki Bob's Chow'n Grog mug now listed

Pages: 1 4 replies

I was told this mug is from the 1940's, but I'm thinking more like the early 1950's ?

Tiki Bob's ~ VERY RARE ! ~ Vintage Mug ~ Chow'n Grog ~ San Francisco

This is the rarer version of Tiki Bob's Mugs.

The mug is is Excellent condition.

FULL DISCLOSURE, SEE PHOTOS:

There are visible cracks on the inside, that
I believe happened at the time it was manufactured,
because the brown color moved into the cracks
before it went in the kiln.

Some of the letters appear incomplete;
a small artist's flaw common among
Tiki Bob's mugs.

It looks like someone wrote their name
on the bottom, but I can't read it, and
I only noticed it when I took the photos.

All are minor, natural flaws, to be expected in such
rapidly-made pop art of the period.

The dark and light brown color differences
are unique on each mug, because they were
hand-painted, and are intended to resemble wood.

There are no chips or repairs that I can find.

thanks for looking,

Tiki Bob's opened in 1955. With its unusual stamp, it might indeed be an early generation. I am curious how it's gonna go, usually such high opening bids scare away all bidders, but Tiki Bobs are wild cards, often.

There are 11 of these mugs shown on the Ooga Mooga collections.

Average price of the last three sold on ebay around $180.

thanks for the replies and info !

Update:

I found some tiny chips on the mug,
so I lowered the minimum bid.

The chips are tiny, but certainly
affect the value.

I uploaded a new photo of the flaw.

thanks for looking.
