My friend has decided to upgrade from a starter model, and would value any recommendations for a decent mid-price Uke. TIA. Joe. |

Depends on your definition of "mid-priced." I "upgraded" from my $20 starter a year-and-a-half ago to this Luna "Tattoo" concert uke for under $100: http://www.amazon.com/Luna-Concert-Ukulele-Tattoo-UKETCMAH/dp/B003L7VQMA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332942309&sr=8-1 The jump in sound quality was amazing. If I eventually manage to get proficient at playing, I'll spend a lot more $$ on a beautiful Hawaiian-made koa uke |

If your friend looks around on this ukulele forum he is sure to find tons info on the subject. http://ukuleleunderground.com/forum/ I have an Oscar Schmidt OU5 I got for 120 that I'm pleased with. My previous experience with Oscar Schmidt and Washburn guitars were good considering their affordability. The OU5 is a sharp looking instrument, decent quality and super sturdy. It is not fragile at all which is very appealing to me. I have little hands in my house. The only con I have about it is it isn't very bright sounding which may change w/ different strings? One day if I get serious about playing I'd probably upgrade. Good luck. SK |
