The Girl And The Tiki on Velvet.

Pages: 1 7 replies

I posted this elsewhere but didn't have much luck. Hopefully someone can help me.. I'm Also no to good with forums so if I broke a rule I apologize.

Im new to this site, I found it while trying to research who painted this lovely velvet.
I cannot seem to find anything about the artist anywhere.

It is titled on the back as
"The Girl and The Tiki"
It is also signed W. Thom of Hollywood
As shown in the photographs
Also as far as dating I'm completely unsure as well in the front signature there appears to be a 7 so it could be 70s.
The only reason I say this is because some of my other velvet nudes from the that era are marked the same.
I could be completely wrong. Any outside information I would greatly appreciate

Wow, dat's nice! No idea about the artist, but for the origin of the Tiki, look here:

Thanks..
Any one have anymore information? maybe a date. I don't really collect tiki, I collect nude velvets. So if anyone is interested in this one shoot me any offer!

I could find no mention of this artist anywhere, My guess is he/she
was just a local artist who made a try of it, I would say from early 1970s
judging on the style.

This was not a famous Velvet Artist is the best we can tell you
it would be a fun piece for someones Tiki Bar, though.

I also thought it was from the 70s' thanks..
I Enjoy the painting a lot , I just figured someone who was more into the tiki thing would like it more..
Are you from Costa Mesa? I live there as well!

Hello and welcome. I have a black velvet by that artist (Walter Thoon) but can give you little detail about him from my research. I don't think the 7 under his name is a date but just a flourish in his signature. It does look like it is from the late 60s or 70s. Not a well known artist as far as I can tell. I like the painting.
