Tiki Central / Collecting Tiki

Another what is it post

Pages: 1 5 replies

Good day all, I'm Steve.
I work in a bar in St. Augustine Florida. The center piece of the bar is this pictured wood carving.

It appears to be of one solid piece of wood about 2.5 - 3 feet tall or so.

It was alleged to have been brought to the bar from Tahiti in the early 50's or so. Some say it's a fertility god, some say it's some kind of death totem or something.

Does anyone have any idea of what this may be? Thanks.

Not Tiki!

Aloha,

Yes, while not Tiki...(It looks more Balinese, Vietnam, Cambodian, or of Indian origin...) that doesn't mean it wasn't imported from one of those places to Tahiti and eventually to where it sits.

Garuda?

There is a lot of variation in depictions of Garuda, but this looks like some that I've seen.

TM

Hi guys, I recommended the poster post here on TC. I knew it was not poly-pop, but I figured if anyone in the world could identify it, it would be tiki central.
