rum/tiki drink recommendations for a rookie...

Pages: 1 4 replies

going to the Tiki Day @ Disneyland this Sun and would really like to flex my mixologist skills (which are virtually nonexistent)...anyone have any recommendations for a newbie (rum-based preferably), something with relatively simple ingredients for travelling? thanks!

Can you give me a description of yourself
so I can alert Disney security

An incredibly handsome but very inexperienced mixologist (OK, it was me :D ) started a "Simple Tiki Drink List" a while back that might be helpful to you

P

The simplest mixed cocktails are highballs.

Offhand, I can think of two "tiki" cocktails that fir into that category.

Cuba Libre

1 part rum (any will do)
3 parts coca-cola (mexican coke works best)
juice of 1/2 lime

serve in a double rocks or highball glass. Stirred, not shaken.

Any rum will do but a amber-colored rum with a little rum flavor works best. If using Bacardi, use bacardi gold or bacardi 8 but not bacardi superior. Mount Gay Eclipse works fine. Gosling's Black Seal, Gold or 151 works, too.

Dark and Stormy.

Basically the same recipe as a Cuba Libre, but use Gosling's Black Seal for the rum and Ginger Beer instead of coke.

For something a little more complicated, try this:

juice of 1/2 lime
1 shot of rum (like you would use in a cuba libre)
1/2 oz Agave Nectar
1/2 oz water
a pinch of nutmeg

Shake wiht ice and pour (not strain) into a rocks or double rocks glass.

This is called a Bumbo, Bombo, or Bomboo (depending on who you ask).

thanks all for the suggestions, the simple list is exactly what I needed - now to decided what sounds tastiest!
