Break out the Sex Wax* and the top-shelf rum cuz it’s time for a landlocked surfin’ safari! Surf In The Turf is the first in a series of surf and tiki-themed gatherings in the Tampa Bay area, mixing sights and sounds. Musical performers will include The Vodkanauts (surf/lounge/rock ‘n’ roll sextet from Pinellas), The Thrusters, (hot rod roots rock/surf foursome from Orlando) and I Belli di Waikiki, a quartet from Italy that plays “rock ‘n’ roll hula-style.” The latter group is stopping in Tampa Bay as part of their first US tour, which includes an appearance at Hukilau 2003 in Ft. Lauderdale the weekend of June 27-28. But it’s more that just great music! Surf In The Turf will also include vendors and artists displaying surf and tiki-related items for display and purchase. Vendors currently confirmed include Star Booty (eclectic boutique, St. Petersburg) and Hula Hula (hawaiian and tiki decor and collectables, Gulfport. Artist will include Hugh T. Williams and Hugo Pocarro and Carrie Price. It’s for surfboards, you twisted little freak.
