My local record shop brought in one copy of Les Baxter's "Jungle Jazz" on vinyl, which has been re-released by So Far Out Records out of London. The quality is great and they did not cut corners in bringing the cover art back to life. I had never heard of this label and an internet search reveals little. But here is a link to some of their stuff for sale, and it is some pretty rare and cool exotica: http://weirdorecords.com/zen/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=1734 |

I have their reissue of Ahmed Abdul-Malik's "Jazz Sahara", which is very nice. Obviously worth keeping an eye on this label. |

I saw this record in my favorite record store. I wish So Far Out would have given more information on their reissue. Is this LP 180 gms? Remastered? What source was used for the new LP? I don't remember if the reissue was mono or stereo. I passed. The Capitol originals are excellent records. What I'm trying to say is had Jungle Jazz been originally released on a low budget record label I would consider a new release that had some work done to it. |
