Has anyone had this rum I recently had some Maderia at Benu (50 year old - amazing) which tasted like a great lower proof rum, so this is really interesting to me, are the flavors toned down enough to sip this? Would the flavors be lost in a cocktail? |

I have not yet had the PX, but I have had the 5+3 and liked it. The time in the sherry casks really gives this rum a lot of sherry character and I assume with two more years in sherry casks the PX comes off very sherry-like as well. The 5+3 is very sippable but the flavor profile comes off as a bit odd at first until my palate acclimated. |

I have been sipping PX 5x5 for a while, and it does have an interesting flavor profile. Pedro Ximenez sherry is one of my favorite sipping beverages, and you would have to have a bold and unique rum to stand up to the heavy raisin and fig sweetness of the sherry. Would the flavor get lost in a cocktail? No, I think the flavor would dominate the cocktail, and you would have to invent a new drink to handle this rum. Anyone up for the challenge? |
