wow! that sure is a shiny boat!

they must have been up all night putting the shine
on that baby!

[ Edited by: komohana 2013-09-29 02:49 ]

TM

so what. They all do it.

The boat itself is what impresses me.

yeah, but i don't think the other boat was as shiny as that one!

boy, those americans sure know how to put a shine on a boat!

TM

I really don't care.

As I said, the boat itself is what impressed me. Also the historic win. I also like the fact that sailing is in the news. The nationality of the crew doesn't bother me one bit. We have athletes from all over the world playing on our teams here, in every sport. So do other countries.

Listen bud, I have been told that I cannot criticize anything on this forum, and that I cannot "crap on someone's good time". I am trying to be all warm and fuzzy and accepting about everything these days. I need to accept that hillbilly is tiki, for example, and that anything to do with Hawaii is NOT tiki. for another example...so I am trying to adhere to that. I would kindly ask you to do the same.

Look, I am just happy when there is a sport in the news other then the LA Laker's basketball.

(Or gang beatings/stabbings at Giants/dodgers baseball games).

Yachting is a nice, clean sport where the participants are not thugs.

they should round-up all those scallywags and show 'em
how to polish up a boat so's it's all nice and shiny,
that'd keep 'em out of trouble!

What! Taking over all our docks, playing their "Yacht Rock" early in the morning
and drinking all our "Bloody Mary's" & what is up with those sailing shoes?

Just a bad element of society, I say!

Any sport where New Zealand is a powerhouse is a cool sport!

And did you know Israel won it's only Olympic gold medal in sailing (sailboarding)?

Yes, Yes I did!
And you were right on cue, Lucas..... it is time for the "Yacht Rock" again.

They are not people, they are Jimmy buffett fans.

[ Edited by: Atomic Tiki Punk 2013-09-28 19:16 ]

ATP, you should be ashamed! Please do not make fun of Jimmy Buffett! Remember, it's ALL good and it's ALL tiki! Jimmy Buffett wears Hawaiian shirts! That makes him Tiki! We are redefining Poly-Pop by the minute!

:)

K

does jimmy buffett like shiny boats too?

maybe you could join his highly successful band
and play some shiny boat songs!

here's some words i just made up, you can use them
if you like.

:music: shiny-shine, shine your boat, all the live long day,
shiny-shiny, shine your boat, but keep the gulls away! :music:

I think those actually are Buffett lyrics. Track 7 of the "son of a son of a sailor" album.

K

sorry, now i understand your initial post...

This story appealed to me, as I use to be a sailor.

your dad and grand-dad use to be sailors too?

Grampa: Dutch Navy (WW2)
Uncle: Australian Navy (1960's)

Me: US Army transportation corps (Sailing soldiers) 1980's.

You might say Lucas has a bit of Seamen in him......

TM

Next time I see you, your getting a crack in da mouth!

Why is the American flag backwards on Oracle's space-age, 72-foot catamaran?

Plus it's nice that in these lean times someone can spend 500 million on a F*&%ing boat race.
"Ellison, who has spent an estimated $500 million the last 11 years in pursuing, winning and now defending the silver trophy, hopped on board and was sprayed with champagne by the celebrating crew."

Some people don't make that in a year.

K

Remember when the cup was in New Zealand and that guy smashed it up with
a sledge hammer?
The modern day smiths at the same company that made it originally repaired
it over several months... for free.

At least the days of the 12 metre class held a remnant of nobility and fairness.

"Oracle shuts down Oracle VDI, Sun Rays, and lays off most of the desktop virtualization staff worldwide"

We are sorry we are going to have to lay you off as we spent too much on a boat race.
"Hey don't look so glum"
"Because we WON the boat race!!!"

The Beatles suck.

K

didn't they sing "the seasick grunt song"?

:music:
as a ne-phew of a son of a sailor,
he went out on the sea for adventures,
but heaved a great spew, on the captain and crew,
and scuppered his favourite dentures... :music:

oops - had to correct the lyrics a bit.

[ Edited by: komohana 2013-10-01 19:29 ]

TM

No. That song was written by the late, great Nipsey Russell. Everyone knows that.

But any song with the word "Spew" in it, or any phrase related to spewing..is ok in my book.

See...I told you you had some Seamen in ya!

TM

You are not thinking it through logically....I like the word "Spew" because it can be used in a sentence such as:

"That Pot Roast looks so good I'm liable to spew all over myself".

It's a poem, not a song, but...

A Channel Passage

The damned ship lurched and slithered. Quiet and quick
My cold gorge rose; the long sea rolled; I knew
I must think hard of something, or be sick;
And could think hard of only one thing -- YOU!
You, you alone could hold my fancy ever!
And with you memories come, sharp pain, and dole.
Now there's a choice -- heartache or tortured liver!
A sea-sick body, or a you-sick soul!

Do I forget you? Retchings twist and tie me,
Old meat, good meals, brown gobbets, up I throw.
Do I remember? Acrid return and slimy,
The sobs and slobber of a last years woe.
And still the sick ship rolls. 'Tis hard, I tell ye,
To choose 'twixt love and nausea, heart and belly.

Rupert Brooke
