Phoebe Beach on Hawaii's Kitchen

Pages: 1 2 replies

I just recently came across this, and a search didn't turn it up on TC. A month ago Phoebe Beach posted a video of herself appearing on Hawaii's Kitchen back in 2002, promoting her books about Donn. The video quality is poor (obviously transferred from VHS), but there's a few interesting things of note. In the opening scene where she discusses Donn, she has some items she brought with her, and it includes a long-necked Donn mug, as well as one of the rare bamboo Vermonde mugs!

I've attempted to reach out to Phoebe a couple of times, but haven't heard anything back. Maybe if we post some comments on her YouTube video we can persuade her to come to TC and do an AMA?

Fantastic find. There is so little first hand info on Donn Beach that it is great to see his last wife and get a few cooking/mixology demos from her. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the link. That was worth watching.

The book the program promotes is still available from Amazon.

It was interesting when Phoebe Beach described how Don had an amazing palate. I've met people who have this ability. One taste of a dish and they can tell you pretty accurately everything that's in it. It's a definite talent and it explains well why Don the Beachcomber was so good at inventing and adapting food and drink recipes.
