Finding unique rum. Where to buy?

Pages: 1 6 replies

Back in 2006 and 2007 I remember buying this lovely white Rum branded as Oronoco. Now I cannot find it anywhere. I live in Northern California and I even had my guy at K&L do some digging, and he can't get it.

Does anyone know of a source for Oronoco Rum?

What about distribution sources for other rare and fine rums? I've seen what BevMo has to offer. I've tried it all, and I'm looking for some new adventures.

Lastly, I'm new here. I tried searching the forum for this topic but, alas my searches didn't yield a result. So, since I am new here, if this topic is already on the forum and I just couldn't find it, I apologize, and if anyone could point me in the right direction, that would be great.

Since your in Calif. shipping prices will be reasonable
so check out Hi-Times http://www.hitimewine.net/
based in Costa Mesa, Ca.

I checked the availability of Oronoco Rum (from Brazil) found it here at Total Wine.com
http://www.totalwine.com/eng/product/oronoco-rum/102883750

Maybe Hi-Times can special order it for you?
It is still being made though & I found several websites have reviewed it recently.

I found the totalwines site, but the page/price never finished loading. I can try calling HiTimes and ask about it. I just found this article from 2013 that states it has been discontinued. http://bahamabobsrumstyles.blogspot.com/2013/09/oronoco-discontinued-brazilian-rum-will.html

Man, this one was really good. I wish I'd bought more of it a long time ago ...

I had initially heard Oronoco was going to stop being distributed to the US, then heard it was being discontinued entirely. That is a shame and a great loss, this was one of the best white rums I've ever had and it would have been a regular favorite of mine if not for the price. If I do run across a dusty bottle on a store shelf I will grab it up.

Aloha - I plan on being in San Clemente again for a 90th birthday in September. When there in the past have had trouble finding a well stocked liquor store, any ideas? I was usually close to Pedro's (potato) Tacos, tho GMa-in-law has since moved, closer downtown I believe. [She's the one who got me The Book Of Tiki from the San Clemente library sale she was volunteering with!]

Total Wine is still a good option, if you're flying into SNA (John Wayne) and driving/have a ride, you could get off in Laguna Hills, run in and get the rum, and get back on the freeway.

BevMo! also has a good selection.

Thanks Wizard, I'll check those out, don't know yet if flying or driving~
