Tiki God Moai Light Covers

I need some technical advice here. I have approx. 30 of the tiki god (moai) light covers. The ones that go on the C-7 light strand. I, not thinking cut them off of the old worn out light strands and I want to put them on the new light strand and I am finding it almost impossible to put them on the strand. Does any one have some ideas of how to get them on the light strand? Thank you!
