Grow your own citrus

Pages: 1 6 replies

Tired of buying lemons and limes? Grow them. Heck, grow everything you need on one tree: http://www.fruitsaladtrees.com/Citrus-Trees

It is a cool idea, but alas for us USA based growers it is a company based in Australia.

You could make your own.... grafting the different bits of trees together isn't really that hard.

In the case of fruit trees, I would suggest going to your local nursery (even if it is just a Lowes/Home Depot) because they will have cultivars that can survive in your location.

That and if you live in a few states, you can't legally transport citrus due to the citrus greening outbreak.

I bought a tree at a local San Diego nursery that has several citrus fruits grafted to one tree. So I get oranges, tangerines, limes and two kinds of lemons all from one tree. It's pretty cool.

That's cool! You made me look up the Wikipedia article on "tree grafting" - it is pretty interesting and has some neat photos.

For anyone interested in those types, they often market them as "Fruit salad" trees.
