Martinique travel - suggestions?

Pages: 1 1 replies

We are thinking about a trip to Martinique in the Spring. Any suggestions for hotels, tours (especially rhum tours), other items of interest? Neither of us speak French, though we plan on learning the usual tourist phrases.

We know there is a Club Med that is Anglophone, and I've found a self-guided tour of rhum distilleries (http://www.uncommoncaribbean.com/2011/08/16/uncommon-attraction-martiniques-route-des-rhums/). Anyone know of a guided tour? Other hotels to consider (Hotel La Pagerie)?

Should anyone be interested, here is what we found.

Knowing basic French seems essential to getting by. A search for Anglophone Hotels gave the Hôtel La Pagerie. An email to them about rhum tours ended up with the following response:

Thank for choosing us, Hotel La Pagerie welcomes you in a private and beautifully decorated environment.
It will offer you an unforgettable stay like honeymooner.
Moreover, all the facilities of a charming and character hotel are provided.
Free Wi-Fi, catering, entertainment,... everything to make your stay enjoyable.

We don’t provide direct car rental services but next to our nice hotel, There are four car rentals (Hertz- Europcar- Avis and Jumbo Car), our recommendation is to book on internet with Hertz for example.

If you prefer, we can hire a guide and taxi driver for you in order to discover several distilleries of Martinique, (40 euros a hour for 1 to 4 persons): let us know how and when you desire this possibility.

So, our approach now is to book a Southern Caribbean cruise with a stop at Martinique.
