Description:
Opening soon! Tai's Tiki, Polynesian Bar & Grill in the Short North.
Have been told that a new tiki lite joint will open in two months.
So that means three months at least.
This will be a nice looking joint with not a ton of tiki from what I hear but better than
nothing I guess.
One of the Kahiki bartenders will have a hand in this so that too is good.

BUT it will have good drinks I have tried some of them.
The food is good well, the stuff I have tried is.

Will post more as I get more.

This is good news! I hope they will attempt a few old Kahiki dishes to include on their menu. If it's modern Asian fusion I'll pull a Dione Warwick and Walk On By.

"If it's modern Asian fusion I'll pull a Dione Warwick and Walk On By."

You may not like this then.
The one owner did the whole Kahiki like restaurant thing and that did not
go so well.
So I can tell you they don't want to revive the Kahiki this time around.

BUT he does do some great sushi and other food so try some apps, or a drink.
As you know the Short north is yuppie city so that if anything that will keep me away.

Will go to see Soung though as I like him and wish him well.

Thanks for the reply. I saw the webpage and decided it wouldn't be my thing. The best I'll ever get to a Kahiki meal is to cook it myself in my home kitchen. I do okay with the fried rice and Tahitian Mermaid....I wish I could master that Indonesian Rack of Lamb that was "from the west".

So do you not like Asian food?
The Kahiki food at the end was not so good really.
But then who went for the food or drinks.

I think the new place will be more American like.
Have seen the menu but keeps changing.

Know somebody who is going to work there as a cook and is to start on Feb 1st.
So maybe a week after that they will open.

Now at Tais Asian Bistro this is very good if you add some red chili paste.

Dan Dan Noodle Bowl **
Chili-served garlic soy, minced chicken, scallions, bean sprouts, cucumber, egg noodles Chicken Garlic Noodle **

Here is Tais Asian Bistro menu.
I would not tell you to go there if it was not good and cheap even.
Would just say nothing and leave it at that.
If you want to meet at Tais Asian Bistro some day PM me and I will see you there.

Kahtiki I did see soung today and he said there will be some Kahiki items on this menu.
And one is the lamb though not seen on these menus.
Also the Tahitian Mermaid.
Now don't hold em to it as there still maybe changes.
But, here is the photos I got today....
Sorry will try to get better scans if I get my hands on a menu.

Does the picture of the Golden Gate Bridge on the menu have any significance? Cuz that's really strange, considering the place is in Ohio.

T

Ha!
Did not think of that.
But they are from Cambodia so lets just be glad the dam place is not a bistro of some sort
and that bistro is not in the name.

Cocktails?

I did not see a drink menu.

I am sooooooooooo getting that Tahitian Mermaid!!!!! :)

T

Soung will be glad to see you Jeff.

Was surprised that none of the old crowd that went to Tropical Bistro
has gone to see Soung at Tai's Asian Bistro.

Soung and Theang did lots for that group back then and it would
be nice to give some support back now.

A

It sounds like they will have a soft opening tomorrow, Monday May 18th at 4 p.m.

I am looking forward to reliving the food and drinks from Tropical Bistro, but with a needed update.

I hope they have kept what I loved about the Tropical Bistro (Drinks, Curry chicken, Imperial Beef Kew) while adding on with a better ambiance...

Anyone?

T

Well they are open!!
It is what I call pretty Tiki décor.
The place is nice looks great with great food and drinks.
They did omit the Golden Gate Bridge from the menu maybe they saw this thread?

Would say that the drinks and food are better than Grass Skirt as
the Grass Skirt seems to have a management problem so the good drink
and food you got ten mins ago are not so good the next round.

Grass Skirt changes their staff often, don't know if that is the
management or workers choice or a bit of both.
But it is never a good sign.

T

Here is the light Jamie made for Tai Tiki.
They added a foot of sorts and they sit on the bar now.

Tai's Tiki has closed.
Soung is a great guy sorry to see this place go.
Hope to see Soung at Tai's Asian Bistro now.

Short North has too much of what my wife and I try to avoid yuppies, Traffic, Bums, High prices, ect...
Short North used to be old and gritty, then the yuppie types found it and "fixed" the cool right out of the area.

GOOD LUCK! Soung and Tai!!!

Well that sucks. I will say the food was delicious, everything you'd want and more. But we live outside 270 and rarely made it into town for food. That fireplace was cool!

That's a bummer. We don't seem to have much of a yuppie scene here in Jacksonville, but we do have a fairly recently developed hipster scene. I went to my favorite whiskey bar a couple months ago and there was a hipster in full costume -- he even had a vintage camera hanging around his neck -- and it was very "Halloween costumish" in how classic hipster it was. It was as if someone had published a hipster style guide pamphlet with photos, and now there are all these guys running around buying exactly the same stuff. He seemed like a really nice guy, he was just trying much too hard to look the part. But at least these guys are generally pleasant, and spend money thereby helping keep some good places open.

Hopefully the former Tai Tiki owner in Columbus opens something else. The new place is confusing - craft bar with 40 beers on tap? I think it would be hard to do both beers and craft cocktails well. Its sad to me when I go to craft bars and see people ordering Bud Light. They just don't know yet what they're missing out on.
