Aloha and Okonkuluku, TC!

It's been forever since you've heard from The WAITIKI 7... we are still alive, still playing, and guess what... COMING TO NORCAL for a very special new year's eve extravaganza!

Thanks to Suzanne Long and her incredible bar LONGITUDE, The Waitiki 7 will be performing for ONE NIGHT ONLY in Oakland, CA. She's preparing a very special, 6 course tasting dinner with her world-famous tiki cocktails as pairings, followed by an exclusive show by us. This is a VIP event and seating is very, very limited.

For those of you whom are "new" to tiki (e.g. have only discovered/re-discovered it in the last 3-4 years), you might not be familiar with Waitiki... No problem!

ABOUT WAITIKI INTERNATIONAL & THE WAITIKI 7
We were founded in 2003 by drummer Abe Lagrimas Jr. (who plays vibes with Don Tiki) and bassist Randy Wong. Abe and Randy both grew up in Honolulu and moved to Boston for college, where WAITIKI was started. In 2005, the band took on a side project that brought back the music of Juan Garcia Esquivel (The Waitiki Orchestrotica) and toured to Mexico City. In 2007, an all-star instrumental exotica septet was formed and became known as The WAITIKI 7. The WAITIKI 7 have since performed at Wassermusik (Berlin, Germany), Retro Cocktail Hour (Lawrence, KS), Ohana: Luau at the Lake (Lake George, NY), Don the Beachcomber's (Huntington Beach, CA), up/down the Eastern Seaboard, and throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

WAITIKI 7 performs everything live and acoustic. Our band members are world-class, first-call jazz, Latin, and orchestral players:
• Tim Mayer (flute, sax, other reeds) - from the Grammy-nominated Latin jazz band La Clave Secreta
• Helen Liu (violin) - Hawaii Symphony Orchestra 1st violin
• Jim Benoit (vibes) - George Lucas STAR WARS ORCHESTRA percussionist; Sarasota Opera & Pittsburgh Symphony
• Zaccai Curtis (piano) - Cindy Blackman Santana band; Donald Harrison band
• Lopaka Colon (percussion, bird calls) - son of Martin Denny percussionist Augie Colon!!
• Abe Lagrimas Jr. (drums) - Monk Competition Semi-Finalist
• Randy Wong (bass) - Hawaii Symphony Orchestra bassist

Appearing with us on NYE: Percussionist Reinaldo de Jesus, who plays with Roy Hargrove, Lauryn Hill, Miguel Zenon!!!

Music aficionados and critics love WAITIKI for its “fresh arrangements infused with contemporaryjazz,” (Milwaukee Free Press), its “Improvisational firepower,” (Jazziz), its sounds that “hark back to the Golden Ages of Waikiki, when lounge music giants like Martin Denny roamed the Earth,” (Mother Jones).
