The one that got away

Did you ever pass up an amazing find only to regret it later? (try not to get tears on your keyboard as you reply).

If all is right I never, ever leave one sitting. Buyers keepers, thinkers weepers.

Found one I wish I had, but belonged to another.

AKA;
Did you ever buy an amazing find, only to discopver later it was a replica from your friendly neighborhood (EBAY) pawn shop?

There's this Maui Lu Luau Tiki Mug made by Daga that is not like the ones you see every day and it was listed on e-bay as a "Maui Lu face cup" I bid $10 just to be out bid at $10.50. I decided to wait till the last minute to bid again, and I was swimming with my kids and missed the closing by a couple minutes. Some guy got it for $10.50.

I hate when that happens!

The set of 4 Mai Kai mugs I mentioned in the original topic are on page 160 in BOT (still kicking myself) https://tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=4809&forum=5&12

A large tortoise shell for $50. I saw it at a junk shop (the only place I'll buy animal things and shells) but wasn't sure if the friend I was going to acquire it for would want to pay $50. He would've, and now "Is it another tortoise shell?" has become the qualifier for any object I contact him about that I'm not absolutely sure he'll want.

OK, I'm completely embarrassed to admit yet another great find that I let slip away, but...

a few years ago I went to an estate sale at a house that a friend was about to buy. In the basement I found two mugs for $1 each- no problem. But a few steps later I found two stools... as pictured on page 8 in Book of Tiki but without the cushion. I think they were $50 for the pair. For what ever reason, I passed... UGH! and yes, my wife still reminds me about once a month or so.
Anyone care to remind me who made these stools? Because I just haven't regretted it enough!!!

Last weekend I went to the Moss Landing Antique fair and saw a huge tiki punch bowl from Harvey's. They had it marked 35 bucks, but since it was Harvey's I wasn't intitially interest (stupid me) and went back 10 minutes later to find out someone with a better eye grabbed it!

I wish them the best, because I truly understand now. :)

about 5 or 6 years ago... an offer from Shag to buy "Three musicians" (the original painting) for a few hundred bucks...
