Tiki Caliente 8: Room Crawl

Pages: 1 24 replies

Tiki Caliente 8 Room Crawl/Room Party Headquarters: Event is May 12-15 2016 in Palm Springs at the Caliente Tropics

This thread will not be updated as frequently as years past. facebook and direct email have become the preferred method of communication and it has become difficult to monitor 7 social media streams. It is recommended you join the Tiki Caliente Room Crawl page on facebook or send email to [email protected]

Time slots will be posted on this thread as soon as they are available. Final event entertainment is still unfolding.

Sponsors? We are often asked how you can get a rum sponsor. Well, you just have to reach out to people you know. It doesn't hurt to contact the actual vendors and sponors via email or facebook. But in reality, you should be willing to host a room without having a sponsor. There are few of them and their resources are limited.

The room crawls are not an official part of the event for many reasons. However, they are very popular and a great way to meet people in our community, enjoy many great cocktails, decked out rooms and great music. You do need a wristband to attend the crawl. You do need to have a room at the Caliente Tropics if you want to host a room on the crawl.

The crew of the Zen Tiki Lounge podcast are delighted to organize the Tiki Caliente room crawl. In addition to following this thread you can listen to ZTL podcast for details. http://www.zentikilounge.com or on iTunes

Room Crawl: Short room events, usually about 60minutes. Hosts invite Crawlers into their rooms to try their cocktails. Some rooms offer a drink and some go beyond and decorate their room and even include music. There are no rules.

Room Parties: These are usually the rooms that keep their door open a little longer, decor and music are more likely, but there are no rules. Themed rooms are often some of the best.

Hosts: Whether you are hosting again or trying it for the first time, you are opening up your room to Crawlers to have a good time and enjoy whatever kind of experience you want to offer. Don’t worry about having to out do anyone else. Just have fun. You can host a Room Crawl or a Room Party. Hosting a room does not mean you have to spend a ton of money. You can choose a short time slot and make as much drink as you want. It is recommended that you make a batch of your drink(s) so that you can pour quickly and keep the lines moving.

Crawlers: You are the GUESTS attending the room crawls and room parties. All Tiki Caliente paid (wristbands) guests are welcome to participate. It is expected that you behave yourselves and lend to the festive atmosphere without causing trouble. You will want to have small bills handy, as tipping the bartenders in the rooms is HIGHLY encouraged because the hosts are not charging you for drinks and have spent a good sum of their own cash. Bartenders do not like being stiffed.

Crawls will occur on Thursday evening, Friday and Saturday. We limit time slots so that guests can experience as much of the live music and room events as possible. If you want to host a crawl or room party, send a note to [email protected]

Yes! There are prizes for participating in the following categories: 1. Best Cocktail. 2. Best Room Party. 3. Judges Choice. Prizes will be awarded on Sunday at the event. Judges are the hosts of the Zen Tiki Lounge podcast and event guests who are not affiliated with any of the rooms on the crawl. Event sponsors who host a room are eligible to win a prize but are given no preferential treatment by the judges.

Need Help? Ask Sunshine Tiki. In addition to hosting the Zen Tiki Lounge podcast, Sunshine has been hosting room crawls and room parties for most of the past decade. Maybe you have been to one of our ZTL room parties at Tiki Caliente, Taboo, Mojave Oasis or Tiki Oasis. Please feel free to email [email protected] for specific questions. Im happy to offer tips on planning your room event, how to mass produce your drinks, music suggestions etc.

This is the final list of rooms on the crawl. 15 stops in 48 hours you better keep the water handy and don't forget the coffee in the morning.

I highly encourage the practice of tipping. It shows gratitude and keeps people wanting to do this. These Tiki lovers work hard to help make this weekend more memorable. So don't be cheap and ruin it for all of us who are passionate about Tiki Caliente. Rory just a thought but how about a prize for the best tipper(customer). Aloha

The biggest party of the entire weekend will be at The Caliente Lobby @12am on Saturday, May 14!
Tiki Caliente Wristband required.

Sunday May 15th! Martini Kings at Tiki Caliente

Enjoy a riff on the Cobra's Fang and the Cobra's Kiss: The Snakepit*.

  • actual snakes not included.

I am looking forward to these great room parties.
Stop by The Explorers Club in room 114 on Friday at 3pm for ours.

A huge thanks to everyone who came out to try The Snakepit on Friday afternoon. If you want to play the home game, the recipe is below. There's also an alternate version of the recipe in episode 55 of my podcast 5 Minutes of Rum. Okole maluna!

The Snakepit
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz orange juice (fresh if you can)
1/4 oz falernum
1/4 oz grenadine
1/4 oz cinnamon syrup
1/4 oz Amaro di Angostura
1 oz Angostura 7 rum
1/2 oz Hamilton 151 rum

Flash blend with 1 cup crushed ice and pour unstrained into a double old-fashioned glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick, and if you don’t need to make 100 of them in an hour: a snake made from an orange peel and cloves.
