Aloha! Been quite awhile since last I posted ... I'm back! Anyhoo ... I recently ran across the Torani Spicy Kola Nut syrup and have combined it with the St. Elizabeth's All Spice Dram 3-4 parts Spicy Kola Nut to one part SEAS Dram. Substituting this for the Trader Vic's Navy Grog concentrate in my recipe makes for a nice change of pace ... and a little zing! Cheers! |

I think the Navy Grog template is one of the best there is for making new drinks - its not as sweet as the Planters Punch or as sour as the Daiquiri formulas. I've streamlined it (slightly) but what I think of the template as: 1 part 'sour' (lemon or lime) Using this template, most of my drinks are Navy Grog variants! It's a combo that doesn't seem able to fail, it has just varying degrees of success. Here's an example I've been working on: The Co-Pilot 1 sweetener (1/4 Fees Falernum, 1/4 cinnamon syrup, 1/2 honey mix) It's a bit of a bite of the Jet Pilot (hence the name) & adding Pernod to a Navy Grog is a bit of a stretch but the rest of the drink fits the template. That may not have been what you intended but no-one else bit :) |

Being in Atlanta, I drink TV's Navy Grog almost weekly. At home, I have struggled to replicate it but come pretty close with this: 1/2 Sugar Syrup Sever with the shaken crushed ice. |
