Aloha all -

Last minute announcement for Chicago area Tiki-philes... a little warm-up for next week's Exotica 2003 festivities...

The Copernicus Center at the Gateway Theatre at 5216 West Lawrence is continuing their silent film series tonight.

The feature at 8:00 is "Hula" starring Clara Bow (It), one of the snappiest ingenues of the Roaring 20s. This 1927 adaptation of Armene von Tempski's novel is subtitled A Romance of Hawaii. She's the daughter of a pineapple planation owner who meets a married engineer from England who catches her fancy. Victor Fleming (Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz) directed. Bow crushed more leading men than any other woman in Hollywood, and appears in a surprising nude scene in the film.

The Gateway is a 1920's vintage theatre with a pipe organ (with 1241 pipes), 2000 seats, and a great balcony.

Ten bucks to get in.

Drinks at HK or the nearby Paradise Club afterwards?

Me and a friend are getting Indian food on Devon St. before, if anyone wants to join us.
