YACHT ROCK this SATURDAY! Ahoy, Landlubbers. You have permission to come aboard The Tonga Hut Palm Springs on Sept. 10, at 8 p.m., to enjoy an evening of way-too-smooth sailing under the desert stars. With many tropical Tonga Hut libations at hand, Captain Michael McLoggins and his First Mate, Marty McLush, will steer this night right into the party harbor known as The Sunnybrook Yacht Club. Once anchor has dropped, prepare to enjoy several hours of McLoggins and McLush spinning a boatload of beautiful "Yacht Rock” songs.
What IS “Yacht Rock”? It’s the name associated to a style of music that was popular from about 1975 to 1981. Many musical artists, including Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins, wrote soft rock songs during this time that spoke to those seeking a particularly mellow lifestyle. These songs usually had plenty of nautical references in their lyrics, videos and album cover art. This style of music all but vanished once Punk and New Wave took over, but many of us have secretly kept our love for it alive all these years. Well, no more secrets! Let’s party like it’s 1975!
Yachting attire encouraged, and bring some Dramamine, because you’ll probably get seasick… from all the rocking music!

It may not be tiki, but it sure as hell is a great concept for an event! I, for one, love yacht rock, and Rory always does things right!
