"Yesterday I received the "new" Tiki Joes Ocean CD in the mail...An essential mix of lounge, surf and exotica all done up in holiday style! (It) includes special guests Marty Lush and Alika Lyman!!...bursting with joyous creativity!!"

-JEFF CHENAULT,
Exotica historian and author

"What a pleasure to hear Tiki Joe’s Ocean’s exploration in sound!

Album opener, Peanut’s Christmas song “Skating” is done pretty straightforward with extra bells and an extended middle including a cool jazz guitar solo. The moody jazz guitar of Kenny Burrell is conjured up by the great Alika Lyman on “We Three Kings” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” has a funky jazz feel.

Nice inclusion of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (from the Nutcracker)
Overall TJO “Vol. 2” sounds much like Ultra-Lounge “Christmas Cocktails” compilations: “Hark The Herald Angels” is rendered with “Switched On Santa” electronic keyboards; a quirky Ondioline style Samba beat is applied to “Little Drummer Boy”; and “Angels We Have Heard on High” is a Latin explosion with angelic interludes. “Jingle Bells” mixes Surf guitar riffs with a wacky Latin party and a fast beat. Oddly it is sort of a redo of their own version on “Vol. 1” that sounded like Baja Marimba Band meets Spike Jones on speed.

The instrumental “Mele Kalikimaka” sounds a little bit Hulabilly with the steel guitar having a bit of a Western flair. It’s a nice addition to the collection of covers of the Hawaiian Christmas classic.

Too bad, Jeff Chouinard left about the time that guy nicework came on, heck now they are BOTH gone.

Seams like newbies that go ape shit and post a ton when they first get on TC burn out fast.
Sven put it best...
"a great example of simply DOING it: Not just consuming Tiki, not just moping around, complaining there is no Tiki - just going out and DOING Tiki!

Just doing something will always set things in motion."

Hope they are both still out doing tiki.
Jeff just carved two tiki for the front of that FLA bar bali Hi?
That nicework guy is carving ice or something.

This is from Go Fund Me:

While the rest of us have been hating 2017 for various other reasons, our friend Andy of Tiki Joe’s Ocean lost all of his studio equipment and every note of the band’s music to a robbery on February 1st, recouping only 20% through insurance. Here’s an opportunity for our Ohana of the tiki community to help Andy finish rebuilding

Here’s what was stolen:
-Ephiphone Casino Guitar - Gold Fleck - one of a kind!
-Kurzweil PC1x keyboard
-Dell "tower" PC Computer
-Epiphone Bass Guitar, color "sunburst"
-Peavey Bass Amplifier
-M Audio Project Mix I/O mixer-Cascade V57 mic and combo storage case
-Joe Meek mic pre vc3q
-Joe Meek mic pre 3Q

It's a very strong collection of holiday songs done well in the TJO style.
