Was there ever a final answer on Rufus, or did he go to the giant Tiki pond in the sky?

At the risk of inflaming the passions which resulted in not one, but 2, locked threads, was there ever a definitive answer?

I don't have an answer - so please bear with me for a moment - but some reviewer on Yelp spoke of visiting the new place and having had the "Rufus Fish Special" or something like that. Obviously, it must have been someone from the tiki community with a sense of humor, but the review also pointed out that the new restaurant wasn't really anything special in a part of the country with lots of Chinese and Asian fare. I dunno if the review is still out there, and I can't remember the name of the new place, otherwise I'd consider going back on Yelp and looking it up again.

Rufus was a prize to whoever owned him. The fact that we have not heard anything is an indication that he probably didn't survive all the activity and whatever move he was forced to endure.

I am reminded that, no matter how much we love places, we cannot always rescue them or keep them in business. So enjoy what we have while we have it. There is no telling what may happen next and what beloved tiki place we may lose next.

The rub is the guy who bought Bahooka did not care about Rufus until he thought there was a pay day connected to Rufus.

I get it "it's just a fish"
But Rufus was cool, too bad he's gone?

Kahiki had Sam the Parrott, still alive I think.
He too was/is cool.

Some folks are just insensitive and uncaring like that, and/or it's all about money to them. He may have had Rufus not survive a move and then been too afraid of bad publicity and other repercussions. Sure, that sucks, but it may have been that person's very wrong way of dealing with it. He could have had all kinds of FREE help. But hey, we've rehashed this all before, and there's nothing we can do about it now.

Too much reading for me here but.....
Andrew Meieran Owner of Clifton's and Pacific Seas told
me while I was building Pacific Seas that Rufus was too much of a risk to move.
He hired a "Paku Specialist" that said, "You move this fish and it will die".
That's why Pacific Seas does not have Rufus with all the other Bahooka stuff in there.
So if he was moved does anyone have picts?

Sad stuff... I thought I had heard that the new restaurant already went out of business too. Such a waste of was was an incredible dining experience. But from it's ashes rose the amazing Pacific Seas! So I suppose there's that...

I like the positive perspective here. Sometimes things are held dearer because they no longer exist. Those who got to experience the Bahooka have memories that are more enriched through its closing. For those that hadn't had the opportunity to go to Bahooka, they can visit Pacific Seas and pay homage to the greatness that once was. And if you go with someone that had been there, they can regale you with tales of the wonder they experienced, making for more great memories.

The fish from all the Kahiki tanks were donated to the local schools. We always wanted to track down where and see if they would spare a few. We didn't get on it right away, and that was so long ago ... are any descendants of the Kahiki fish still swimming?
