Bright & His Hollywaiians, and is included in the collection: From Honolulu to Hollywood – Jazz, Blues & Popular Specialties Performed Hawaiian Style. “Back in Your Own Backyard” the 1938 song from the collection: The Quintessential Billie Holiday, Volume 5: 1937-1938, featuring Teddy Wilson on Piano, Buck Clayton on Trumpet, Walter Page on Bass, Lester Young on Alto Sax and Jo Jones on Drums. “At the Clambake Carnival” comes from the CD Box Set: Cab Calloway & His Orchestra, Volume 2 –1937-1938, Disc B: 1937-1938. “On the Beach at Waikiki” by Nani Wolfgramm & His Islanders from the CD: 20 Golden Hits of Hawaii. “The One Rose (That’s Left in My Heart),” the 1937 song by Del Lyon and Lani McIntyre, was sung in 1943 by Dorothy Lamour accompanied by Dick McIntyre & His Harmony Hawaiians, and appears on the summery celebration: Queen of the Hollywood Islands. “Honeysuckle Rose,” the classic inked by Andy Razaf and Fats Waller, was sung by Lena Horne with Benny Carter & His Orchestra in the 1943 movie: Thousands Cheer, and is drawn with swizzle sticks from the fond look back: Somewhere Over the Rainbow: The Golden Age of Hollywood Musicals. “Once Upon a Summer Time” by Blossom Dearie from her 1958 LP of the same name, composed by Johnny Mercer, Eddie Barclay and Michel Legrand, featuring Blossom Dearie on Vocals and Piano; Mundell Lowe on Electric Guitar; Ray Brown on Bass; and Ed Thigpen on Drums. “Warm Night Wind” from the CD: Voodoo! – The Exotic Sounds of Robert Drasnin. “E Hele Ana E,” a song about going to beach and “gathering delicacies by the sea,” was performed by HAPA on their ambling album: In the Name of Love, featuring Keli Kaneali’i on Vocals and Rhythm Guitar, and Barry Flanagan on Vocals and Guitar and Jimmie Kaopuiki on Bass. “It’s a Lazy Afternoon” was composed by John LaTouche and Jerome Moross, and sung by June Christy, Arranged and Conducted by Pete Rugolo for Christy’s 1957 labial LP: Gone for the Day. “June Is Busting Out All Over” the 1948 recording of the song from the 1945 Rodgers & Hammerstein musical: Carousel, taken here from the anthology: Benny Carter Plays Cole Porter’s Can-Can and Anything Goes & Aspects, featuring Benny Carter on Alto Sax, Al Porcino, Stu Williamson, Ray Triscari and Joe Gordon on Trumpets; Frank Rosolino, Tommy Pederson and Russell Brown on Trombones; Buddy Collette, Bill Green, Jewell Grant and Plas Johnson on Saxes; Gerald Wiggins on Piano; Barney Kessel on Electric Guitar; Joe Comfort on Bass; and Shelly Manne on Drums. “Cloudburst” is credited to Jon Hendricks but is believed to be based on Leroy Kirkland’s arrangement for the R&B song by Claude Cloud & His Thunderclaps. It was recorded in 1955 by Jon Hendricks With the Dave Lambert Singers, featuring Mr. Lambert on the vocalease solo. “When the Sun Comes Out,” the 1941 song by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler, was recorded by Barbara McNair on her 1964 vital terminus: The Livin’ End. “A Summer to Remember” was performed by Brit Jazzers The Jazz Renegades on their 1988 CD of the same name, with Alan Barnes on Soprano Sax, Paul Lacey on Trumpet, David Newton on Piano, Alec Dankworth on Bass, Steve White on Drums and Harbans Srih on Percussion. “Sun Sea and Clouds,” was performed by the Brazilian group St. Niccolo and comes from the solarized CD: Bossa Flora Sunshine Collection. “So Nice a/k/a Summer Samba (Samba De Verão)” the 1966 Bossa Nova Classic by Brazilian Composer Marcus Valle, with English Lyrics by Norman Gimbel and Portuguese Lyrics by Paulo Sérgio Valle, was sung by Stacey Kent on her amorous album: A Fine Romance, backed by her husband Jim Tomlinson on Tenor Sax, John Pierce on Piano, Colin Oxley on Electric Guitar, Simon Thorpe on Bass, and Chris Wells on Drums and Percussion.
