Has anyone tried Dove Tale rum from Florida? Definitely a sweetened rum, and I cannot yet fairly judge it until I taste some more. I have not bought a bottle yet. Here are a few details: -- Distilled from Florida sugar cane grown in the Everglades. |

It's coming, along with a blend of Kentucky Bourbon and Florida rum ("Brixton Mash Destroyer") which was also just recently released. And third, "John Drew Rye Whiskey." I understand there will be more Brixton blends in the future. The bourbon/rum blend is the first to come out. I spent 5-10 minutes talking to John Drew one-on-one, great guy. He was understandably silent about the future releases probably because the current focus is on the three initial releases -- Dove Tale, Brixton Mash Destroyer, and the John Drew Rye. The other stuff may be relying on strong performance of the first three. Note that the goal of the John Drew brand is to dramatically shake up existing traditions and customary ways of doing things. I expect unusual new blends and more variations like unusual barrel aging methods. It's not about doing stuff others have done, but doing innovative new things to intentionally "break the molds." These guys live for doing that, and even more now that they've proven very successful creating other multi-million dollar selling products. I tasted all three at their holiday party, but the weather was so dang cold this weekend that I just couldn't really focus on the tasting and make any reliable comments except for the sugary rum. I'd like to relax and slowly sip a couple ounces of each. Given what I have on hand in my home bar, I'm not yet able to bring myself to buy bottles for experimenting. I'm curious to see if anyone else runs into any one of these, tries them, and then posts about it here. |
