Audio players that change playlists at specific time

Pages: 1 5 replies

Oddball question here for you music gurus. I've found myself compiling digital music playlists from my library for specific times of day in the tiki lounge/pool. I'm not much for streaming services like Spotify. My question is, does there exist a music/audio player capable of automatically changing playlists at a specified time? For example, I want surf rock/beach to play until 6 p.m., then switch to my bossa nova playlist until 8 p.m., at which point it transitions to exotica/hapa haole for the remainder of the evening.

It seems like a simple timer function that could/should be built into players, but I've searched online and not seen anything of the sort. Maybe it's too obscure a need to bother with? Thanks!

For Mac or PC? Which player will you be using?

Take a look at J. River Media Center. It has a built in scheduler that may be able to do what you are looking for.

Somebody on the J River forum recently asked a similar question:

El Jefe--sorry, not thinking. PC. I currently use Winamp but my version doesn't do what I want and it seems to have become orphan tech.

Hakalugi, thanks for the links! I will definitely check that out. I know people have rigged up Raspberry Pis to do something similar, but that's above my pay grade. Much appreciated.

It looks like Foobar2000 supports a plugin that will let you schedule changes between playlists. Looks interesting. I'll have to play around with it myself.

See:

Bam Bam, thanks for that! I was looking at Foobar, but discounted it because that feature didn't appear native. I never thought about plug-ins. Groovy.
