A medley of “Maui,” “Palakikko” and “Paaluhi” was performed in 1930 by the highly-influential Steel Guitar Master Frank Ferera and appears on the historical document: Hawaiian Steel Guitar Classics – Historic Recordings 1927-1938. “My Girl from the South Sea Isles” was laid down in 1929 by the Hawaiian Beach Combers, spotlighting the variegated talents of Bennie Nawahi on Vocal, Steel Guitar and Ukulele, and deeply derived from the bustling box set: With My Little Ukulele in My Hand. “U'ilani” (Heavenly Beauty) was the 1962 recording by Lena Machado of her 1947 song tribute to the just born daughter of friends that is included on Machado’s apt anthology: Hawaiian Song Bird, supported by Billy Hew Len on Steel Guitar, Cy Ludington on Guitar and Arranger Bennie Saks (Sakimaki) on Vibes. “I’m Livin’ on a Easy” by Gabby Pahinui & Group was drawn from the creative compilation: Rough Guide to the Music of Hawaii -- Slide and Slack Key Surfing Sounds. “Slack Tides” was recorded live in Maui in 2003 by Daniel Ho and is featured on the smooth and strong CD: Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar. “La Mer,” the 1946 song by Charles Trenet to which lyrics were later added by Jack Lawrence when it became the popular song: Beyond the Sea. This version was rendered by the Tacoma, Washington, band Pearl Django on their jazzical compact disc: Swing 48, with Dudley Hill, Neil Andersson and Greg Ruby on Guitars, Michael Gray on Violin and Rick Leppanen on Bass. “Tsunami” was written and played by the guitar master Stephane Wrembel on his well-born creation: Origins, backed by Koran Hasanagic on Rhythm Guitar, Dave Seranza on Bass and Nick Anderson on Drums. “By the Beautiful Sea” was acted out in 1947 by Spike Jones & His City Slickers and was unceremoniously yanked out of the bulging box set: Strictly for Music Lovers, and includes Dick Morgan and The Salt Water Tuffies on vocals with the untimely spoken interruptions of George Rock. “Smoking Panatelas on the Blue Mediterranean Sea” was recorded by The Aqua Velvets on their crushing compact disc: Nomad, spotlighting Miles Corbin and Hank Maninger on Electric Guitars, Michael Lindner on Bass and Donn Spindt on Drums. “Far Across the Sea” was written by Johnny Mercer and Bernie Wayne, found on the 1962 liquid LP: Far Across the Sea: The Romantic and Exciting Music of Many Lands, by the producer, arranger and vibes master Gene Rains, with Byron F. Peterson giving Lberace a run for his money on Piano. “Reckless Night on Board an Ocean Liner” was rendered in 1937 and comes from the rankling retrospective: The Music of Raymond Scott -- Reckless Nights and Turkish Twilights by Raymond Scott & His Quintette. “How Deep Is the Ocean,” the 1932 song by Irving Berlin/ was used in the 1933 movie: The Life of Jimmy Dolan, and was interpolated by the Piano Genius Bill Evans on his 1961 lapping LP: Explorations, featuring Scott La Faro on Bass and the late Paul Motian on Drums. “Manu Kai (Sea Bird)” specially spun for us by the Slack-Key Guitar Master Keola Beamer on his righteous recording: Mauna Kea – White Mountain Journal. “By the Beautiful Sea (Reprise)” is a version of the 1914 song by Harry Carroll and Harold R. Atteridge that appears on the Jackie & Roy aquatic album: The Beautiful Sea: Songs of Sun, Sand & Sea, coordinated and strings arranged by John Simon. “'Round Midnight,” the jazz classic composed by Thelonious Monk, Cootie Williams and Bernie Hanigan is found on the ambitious album titled Steelonious by the Lap Steel Guitar master Mike Neer, with Matt Young on Piano Andrew Hall on Bass and Diego Vogilino on Drums.
